TR6 TR6 Hardtop Installation Guide please

I am a proud owner of a '73 TR6 PI just for month. A longtime wish finally fulfilled. Anyway, car came with a hardtop. PO never bothered to install it and most hardware missing. Have all the gear together now, and just finishing of installing a new rubber seal on the windshield side of the hardtop.
Now I am about to install the whole thing. I am totally confused on the rear end installation. The softtop is riveted. Do I need to undo that in order to find the plugs? Do I need to uninstall the softtop and -frame as well. Pictures or guides on the exact location of the side pillar-attachements would be helpfull as well since I think I need to unbolt the attachments for the windblocker as well.
Tx.

Jobster,

The rear soft top rail must come off the car to access the rear bolt holes. You can leave the soft top assembly installed.

TRF has a guide available, but for what is's worth here is what I do:

a. Install distance piece (2) in windshield frame from the top.
b. Place hardtop on car and start front bolts, rear and side mounts.
c. Work your way aound gradually tightening all fasteners. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE WINDSHIELD BOLTS. If you do, you'll end up with two bumps.
d. Roll up windows and close the doors. Adjust side and rear to obtain a good alignment.

The rear hardware will adjust the gap between the top and deck lid. You may want to leave a gap between the bumper and rear deck because if it touches, while you drive it will flex and leave marks in the paint which will require touch up in the spring.

Just out of curiosity, where did you source your windshield to top seal? I've gotten two from different sources and they did not fit at all. I want to install mine in a month or two and need a good seal.

Got mine from Rimmer Bros in the UK. Looks like a good fit, on my hard top at least. Thanks for the info, 1 clarification, the rear soft top rail is the one that attaches the softtop t the body. In my case the buttons are all riveted.

If I understand you, yes, the soft top and buttons are likely riveted to the soft top rail - but the rail itself is bolted to the body if I remember correctly.

Simply unbolt the rail, it will still be attached to the soft top.

Randy

There should be 5 bolts holding the rear stiffener to the car. The soft top is riveted to the stiffener with lift the dots so the tonneau and top cover can be installed.

Try partially stowing the soft top and look at the stiffener for the 5 bolts. If the 5 bolts are not there, then the top was installed incorrectly.

I'll try Rimmer next for the seal.

Thanks, Gordo

OK, will give it a shot. But 1st I need to figure out what the "clickerdeclack" is at the right rearwheel. Thought it might be the hub cap, since it missed 2 springs, but no. Oh well, never a dull moment.
