Hi all,

I'm very new to this forum and happy to be here!

I recently inherited my late father's 1976 TR6. It has sat in the same spot (covered and out of the rain, but outside in Louisiana humidity) for over 10 years. I am hoping to begin working on it but not exactly sure where to begin. I am making a list of what I need to do but please let me know if I am mistaken or if there are other must do's in order to get it started. I will worry about making it move after I can get it reliably starting.

I am thinking I must take off the tank and drastically clean it or replace it.
Change the oil and oil filter.
Bought a new battery today.
Distributor cap and spark plugs actually look in great condition but tomorrow will be taking the plugs out and cleaning them.
Take off the carbs and give them a cleaning.

In terms of getting the car to start is there anything I am missing? I am pretty much an absolute beginner so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Blow out the fuel lines.
Drain and flush the radiator.
Check the wiring for any bare wires or corroded connections.
Check or change the hoses and belt.

Don't forget hydraulics. Sitting for ten years, check brake fluid, if master cylinder is full of fluid and it looks good you may be ok, but bleed the brakes until clean new fluid is coming out. Check the condition of hard and soft lines. Make sure brakes work right before you drive. Pedal is firm, doesn't slowly sink to the floor (it will sink some when you turn on the car because of the brake booster). Take it a step at a time, stop I here when you have questions. Good luck!

BCF archives is your friend; lots of folks have been where you are, and have asked that same question.

Here’s my similar post from 17 years ago, similar info and good responses:

I got a TR GT6 1972 ( really two ) one parts car and a driver or complete car that sat for a unknown number of years. I did get it running and DMV New fuel pump replaced fuel line cleaned fuel tank checked all brakes and lines repaired poor wires new battery changed oil & filter and new plugs and wires, reset valves and new tires. Now that it ran I then started restoration of all rubber and bushings, After I knew all at least worked, rebuilt trans diff and wheel bearings and the list goes on and on.
Enjoy
