TR6 TR6 Does not turn over.

My '74 TR6 will not turn over. I have had ignition issues before and would remove the ignition wires from the back side of the key, remove and replace the wires, and the car would start. Problem has been intermittent. Now that trick stopped working, so I replaced the short wire harness that goes from the back of the key. The car brake light and ignition lights come on, but the car does not turn over. Any help as to what to check next is appreciated.

Any noise at all?

Seem to remember that there were different wire pieces and it mattered which one was correct.
 
I'd be sure the seat/cushion/weight-switch and seat-belt switch has been "properly" disabled to allow the car to start without being seated with the seat belt on. -Or remove/bypass the module that controls those functions on a 74.
 
Yes if nothing happens when you use the key to try the starter, then the 74 year only, seat belt warning need to be overidden.
Look in the upper passenger foot well. There is a big round plastic plug with 12 wires that is plugged into a buzzer box. Connect the White/orange to the White/red wire. Then see if the starter works
 
Okay. Thank you very much, gentlemen. I will follow up as advised. Problem is I won't have a chance until next week. I took my 20-year-old daughter to In & Out Burgers tonight. We pushed the car thinking to go through the drive-through. We got our order and I pulled into the shade. The sun was hot. Shut off the car. What was I thinking??? Reflexes got the best of me. Dang. Thing is, my daughter, I think, is attractive and we had a guy come to her aid pushing the car. I sat, she pushed. All worked out okay. Couldn't help it, guys. I NEEDED TO DRIVE MY TRIUMPH. I'll keep you posted.....no pun intended. PS: My overdrive still sucks, went in-op, and has had two British car-type mechanics kind of baffled. Another long story......another thing to fix.
 
Here's a schematic of the seat belt module. The two wires poolboy is talking about is pins 11 and 12. Take his advice and jumper those two together. I agree with him... that very well could be your problem. I had the same issue on my TR6.

Gentlemen: My key ignition switch has gone way bad. I must replace my key ignition switch. Can you give me any heads up advice? I am confused by parts catalogs. I have already purchased the wire harness that plugs into the back of the ignition switch. I saw a group of parts for about $249, but it seems that includes stuff I may not need. When I turn the key on the ignition, it turns all the way past its normal stop. Also, it does not release the locked position of the steering wheel. Any help on how the part comes out and what must be done along with what I should be looking to replace is appreciated. I will be referring to this thread, if the car still does not start after the new ignition goes in. I am hoping that is the totality of my problem. Thanks.
 
If your ignition switch is bad, that's an easy fix. If you go to https://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/tc/full.aspx?Page=151 you can see that item 12 is what you need and it's $15. You take the key cylinder out of your existing switch and put it in the new one. Alternatively, you can also buy a new key cylinder (item 13) with two new keys if you don't want to use the old one. Ignition switches to wear out. One of my TR3s had one crack and short out with big old sparks shooting.

Before shelling out the $250 for the whole column lock/switch/key assembly, try simply replacing the ignition switch. Additionally, if you do need to replace the column lock, my guess is that you can find a good used one instead of paying for a new one.

These are ignition key parts. I can see the lock mechanism, which I think will somehow replace what is in my car so I can keep my same keys. I just do not
know how much I have to tear the car apart to replace these. It seems as if there is a hole that may push a small spring-loaded ball to release the key tumbler;
but, I would rather ask those with experience before diving in.

That's a nice switch for sure, but it's for a '69. If you still have the stock '74 setup, that lock won't work. They changed the switch and put it under the column for the 70 model, with terminals on the back of the switch for the connections. For '73, the wiring harness from the switch became part of the switch (#17 on that Vicky Brit page). Can you send a picture of what you have on the car?
