TR6 TR6 Clutch R&R, or goodbye Gunst T/O bearing[Pics]

Re: TR6 Clutch R&R, or goodbye Gunst T/O bearing &

Sounds to me like you be one happy dude. Great feeling eh?

BTW, into which hole on the clutch release lever ( the one from the bell housing to the clutch MC ) did you locate the MC rod?

I have found that mine works well in either the end or the middle hole, but clutch action does appear to function more smoothly in the farthest (end) hole.

Thanks Tom. Erik did a great job with the carpeting and the stereo. He didn't have the time to take pictures of the actual stereo install, but I do have the balance of the pictures on the carpeting installation. I'll post those on my site as a primer for those who feel like tackling the project on their own. I'm really happy that I got mine done and looking at the one remaining piece of carpet that is under the roll bar on the shelf, you can really see the difference in the colors. It's also nice to have a radio that actually tunes in stations and will play CD's.

Get your motor runnin'...head out on the highway

T - it is in the middle hole.

And I did get a shot of the pedal area to show where the carpet can restrict the clutch as well as the gas pedal from fully bottoming out.

And yes, thank you, I am one happy dude. A little poorer, but happy, nonetheless!!

Hey Tosh, I just caught the New Alexandria line. I grew up in Johnstown (actually Conemaugh) and my sister still lives about three miles from where the Roadster Factory is located.

Good to see a native PA guy on here.

Yes. Actually grew up in Blairsville. Am familiar with Johnstown/Westmont/Conemaugh area. Always remember traveling SR 56 into town. I think there was a restaurant called Monte Carlo in Johnstown back in the 60's-70's. Went to the cinema in Johnstown back in the days when towns and cities had theaters in the downtown area. Kind of sad to see what has become of our American cities in the last 35 years.
I think Blairsville played Conemaugh or maybe it was Conemaugh Twp in football don't know if they are the same.
Being 1/2 hr away from the Roadster Factory has obvious benefits.

Gotta stop by when visiting your sister.

Best to you.

Brosky,
Glad to se that you are back on the road...and quiet as well.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What I did to check was not too scientific, but effective. I pushed the Gunst by hand up against the fingers getting it centered as best I could. With the original, bent finger pressure plate, I noticed that I could turn the Gunst freely, telling me that the fingers were hitting somewhere that they shouln't. I put some machining dye on the tip of the fingers and confirmed that it was hitting the very inner portion of the collar.

I tried the same thing with the straight fingered pressure plate. When I pushed the Gunst against the pressure plate, I felt a lot of resistance which to me meant that the fingers were riding where they should on the Gunst. I confirmed this with the machining dye.

I guess that's why we love these British Cars....thy're always a challenge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Take care,
Bruce

Bruce,

It may not be scientific, but it's darned effective and repeatable with the machining dye. I may take the PP and bearing into the shop and do some measuring and checking just for the heck of it. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks,

PR
