TR4/4A TR4A Door latch mechanism issues

My drivers side door latch cover keeps popping off. How exactly is this supposed to be attached? It seems to me it might be a pressure fit, meaning mine is probably worn out.... Is there any way for me to fix this or do I need to get a replacement?

Thanks!

The pivot for the six-pointed cog is supposed to be peened over to retain the cover.

Good working locks are not that easy to find. I have the same problem and I drilled the centre ot the pivot 1/8in and put a thread in it. A flat headed screw now retains the cover quite well.

I added an L-shaped bracket at the side to get a slightly better fit.

You can run a bead of polyurethane sealant right around it to retain and seal it.

It quite useful to be able to get the cover off so as to lubricate and clean.
