Not normally a "resto-mod" kinda guy, but this is nicely done:

TR4 V8

Yeah, there has been some serious coin dropped in building it. With the V8 swaps, I always like to look at how the steering is routed - not much room there!

Quality work - I bet it sells in the $15-17.5k range. Want to start a pool?
No, I don't, but I suspect you might not be far off. OTOH, I'd be surprised if there isn't a heckuva lot more in it than they'll get out of it!

[soapbox]I'm always a bit puzzled by some of what I see as lack of attention to detail. If I were going to go to the trouble to add (and finish very nicely) that big ol' hood scoop thing, I'd have gone the last step and removed the original "bubble" on the RH side of the hood. Oh, and I'd have tried to source and install a complete set of matching gauges, rather than leaving the original speedo and fuel gauge.

I also wonder why it's for sale? {Gee, I spent a huge fortune building this monster car...and I've driven it only a few hundred miles...and I'm not sure I even like it....let's see if I can't get my money back...somehow....} [/soapbox]

I bet that happens a lot. Happens with stock cars as well...

The crudely made unpainted bit of flat used to locate a steering bushing seems out of place. Leaving the clutch master in place is odd also. I should talk, my car has needed paint for ten years and although I rarely put it in car shows, the bonnet stays closed.

I looked at this car a couple of weeks ago when I went with a friend to look at a 1961 Lotus Elite that Tony (aka Angry Juan) also had for sale.

Interesting though not my cup of tea. Didn't care much for how they had to cut away the sills to make room for the lake pipes (those I realize they had limited options for the exhaust system). I wonder if he remembered to pull the nail I showed him out of the LR tire?

BTW -- the friend bought the Elite. Quite a car -- Series 1 Elite, I think the whole thing weighs 1100# -- built like a 1:1 scale Revell kit. Interesting taking a test ride in it in 114 degree heat. It's a beautiful Periwinkle Blue and (IMO) a remarkable car.

Jody -- if you do go over there (it's on Curry) take a peek at the back room which they have sublet to an Italian panel-beater. I'm not sure he speaks any English but he was very friendly and showed us the cars he is working on. My hat goes off to anyone who can take a big piece of sheet metal and make a gorgeous car out of it.

The TR4 is a relist for whatever reason. Saw a couple of months ago, also on ebay.

Lots of hard work and money went into that resto, and it looks like it.

End result: it's no longer a TR-4.

Too Bad. :cryin:

I would not consider it a TR-8 either but I would consider taking it out for a spin..........

I do agree though, it does need a stick shift.

Looks like a tight fit, but it must be a blast to drive. Not a big fan of those wheel or color for that matter.

Not my thing but looks like it was well done. With the Ford V8 sort of like a Triumph version of a Sunbeam Tiger. But why do all that work and use an auto trans? I would have used a 5 speed standard. More fun to drive that way.

That's the peril of an engine swap, some people will love it, some will hate it. You can spend a lot of money and wind up with something very difficult to sell.

I confess I think I'd enjoy a sleeper car if I had one, but my preference would be closer to something like this one..

I agree with the underlying consensus: It would be a contender if it had a manual transmission. The rest of the stuff we can deal with. I'd change out the interior and maybe address those sills.

Wait a minute. Maybe we buy it, change out the transmission, change the interior, and end up with one heck of a fun car to play around in! Off the photo radar streets.

Geo, want to go 50/50?

I've got a buddy who'll drop a transmission in that so tight it will look stock (in a way).
