TR2/3/3A TR3A Crank pulley removal

Pat
What are you working on now?
I would spray the crap out of it with wd-40 and some tapping with a rubber mallet.

I would use PB Blaster, lots of it and let it work in for a while. I had a simalar situation I used a puller with a modified brace and lots of tapping... good luck!

Pat,

I used a bearing puller on mine, which I knew I was going to replace, which was good as I really mangled the thing getting it off.

Thread the dog bolt back in and then use a bearing puller - hopefully you can be luckier than Mike and not bend things, sometimes they are stuck, but quite often just the puller will persuade it off with no issues.

All I can say is, "Ooooohhhh -- that really looks rusted-on there." The crank is worth a LOT more than the pulley. Be careful which you destroy in the separation process.

I use a "harmonic balancer" puller, plus a bolt that fits into the threads in the crank (5/8 NF IIRC) and two bolts that fit through the holes in the hub. On my 3A, the crank nose was worn undersize, so I used Loctite to mount the hub on the crank. Took quite a bit of force to get it off, but the puller did it several times without damage to anything.

My puller only has 2 arms, but apparently they only sell 4-arm pullers these days. Certainly won't hurt if you want to use 3 or even 4 bolts, but two worked fine for me.

Hi Dan
Just pulling a crank out of a spare engine - was planning on selling it. No new projects (I have plenty).
Hope to see you at the Scottish Games in Pleasanton this weekend.
