TR2/3/3A TR3 Wiring harness- with or w/o connectors?

Hey guys,

Do any of the new 3A wiring harnesses come with the bullet connectors installed already? Or do you have to solder them yourself?

Cheers,
Gavin

If you have a pre-60000 TR3A, they came originally with bullet connectors. If you want to order a new wire harness and you want to keep it looking original, order it that way. If your supplier says he can't do it, go to any of the 3 or 4 other wire harness experts who make them or repair them, or have your old one re-covered like I have done on my TR as well as on another I restored in 2006. My 1958 TR3A came with the bayonet (bullet) connectors and many have been there for 51 years. But the cotton cover was newly done in 2007.

I got one on ebay, with a Moss Motors label on the bag. All bullet connectors were in place where they were supposed to be. Lay it out -- plug it in. Easy!

Thanks Don.

I have a post 60,000 3A, so I need one with the bullet connectors. My wiring is just shot at this point- very brittle and more of a liablility than anything.

How about Rimemr bros- I keep hearing good things about their harnesses. Do they come w/ connectors in place?

Thanks!

Don't forget to tug on each connector to make sure it has a proper mating to the wire before installation. I've found a few loose on new harnesses for previous cars.

Gavin-

I'm away from the house for a few days, but I can check the Rimmers harness I bought for a post 60000 when I get back. Fairly certain all connectors are in place - and Rimmers beat any U.S. price I could find by about $100 when they had a 20% sale going, delivered.

That sounds backwards.

I think what Gavin means is that he needs the harness with the Lucar connectors. All the harnesses have some bullet connectors, but the early ones had a lot of screw on connections that had no terminals...just bare wire.

Yes. That is what I meant. Thanks Art.

From TRF: "WIRING HARNESSES,
TR3A, TR3B,
after comm. no. TS60000; similar to
previous listing but with plug terminals
for control box, fuse box, etc"

Thanks for all tips guys. Rimmers has one for about $200.00 US. TRF's vinyl-wrapped one is 270.00. The cloth ones are even more.

Gavin-

And if you can wait, Rimmers will take 20% off that price with a sale.

Yes, don't do what I did. I bought a pre-60,000 harness as it was on offer. I spent ages soldering spade connectors onto it!

Of course, the other alternative is the wiring harness/Power Block assembly from Advance Auto Wire. This way you get to spend twice as much money and six times the amount of time installing it.

I got it for my TR3, and glad that I did. Although it was a ton of work, the end result is superb. Below is a pic during installation.

Edit: Better make that TEN times the amount of time to install...probably 30-40 hours!

Randy, et al: Maybe this should be a new topic, but I recommend caution when charging international purchases on a VISA card. I just had a rude awakening. I just charged $1000 as deposit on a vacation trip to Calgary, Canadian Rockies, etc. I just got hit with a $30 "international service fee", because the travel bureau is located in Vancouver. BC. I called the bank and they pointed the finger to VISA. I am sure that this was in my credit card agreement (the fine print notes), but I still think it sucks. What makes an electronic transaction between the US and any other country different and a justification for a flat 3 percent service charge. It must be that metric bump in the fiber optics cable! :madder: :madder: :madder:
