TR2/3/3A TR3 Windshield Rebuild and Assembly - Step by Step

Any time you are assembling a thing with fine threaded screws, DO NOT fail to chase the threads
clean with the correct tap. The grief you save will be huge! I just had a wind screen frame that had
one broken off screw, but a nice glass(blame the PO). 3 hours to successfully drill and re tap without
cracking the glass with either the drill or the tap .

Yup, a tap, (and die) are absolute musts on these cars !

Trying it out now. Not going so well. You all got yours in…. I’ll keep trying. Maybe with thinner material? I’ve tried cloth tape. Worked. About a week later it cracked. Wanted to try the rubber material from Moss as you see here with this spare glass. Good times.

Get some blue painters tape and tape the thin black rubber to the windshield all the way around the glass the long way and short way the 2 foot end and 4 foot end. you will need a small role of tape The glass should look like a mummy when you are done. Wrap the tape around the face of the windshield so it has large X shaped patterns of tape on the glass from tapping legnth to legnth. You will trim it with a razorblade along the chrome, and the little pieces of tape will be behind the chrome probably in 4 or 5 sponts on the end and on long front maybe 8 spots

If you cannot find the correct thickness of rubber, go to a windshield shop and see if they will sell some of theirs. Those guys usually have some stashed out for old cars.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up using a bicycle tube. Was still a bugger sliding it in the frame. But I got it in. Good to go!

The rubber seal can be "thinned" by stretching it length-way. Some seals come too thick, so a bit of stretching is required. Also, if it envolves using excessive force, it will likely crack later...so best to figure out what is causing the fit issue.

Well, that's not news I wanted to hear. I ended up putting the original glass back into the original frame, just with new seals. I'd never done one before. I hope it doesn't crack. I did stretch the rubber a bit beforehand, and the rubber from the bike tube was a bit thinner and easier than the original Moss rubber seal. Fingers crossed!

After having installed more of these than I can count, the most foolproof way is to NOT use a bunch of
the window tape, just a piece every foot or so to steady the frame. You then take 3M fast windshield urethane
and pump it into the frame from both sides. It makes a terrible mess but cleans up quickly when dried.
It is too easy to crack a new screen pounding on it. Also the windscreen tape is no longer as correct fitting
as in days past.
Given the cost of new glass these days, I hate to break them. So I use this method.
Be sure to wear gloves, it is the mess of all time and doesn't come off skin, just glass or chrome.
