TR4/4A TR3 / TR4 head crack repair

I have a TR4 head that is cracked slightly between the valves in one spot. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this repaired and if it worked out. If so haw was it done.

This is a 'spare' head for me but it turns out the head I have in my TR3 is a TR2 head and the ports on the TR2 head are lower and smaller (I think I have that the right way around). I figure the next time I tear into the engine I will want to get the correct head on there, so I may as well get it fixed now.

Any comments from the collective wisdome of the group?

If the crack is not too deep you can fit seat rings.

And a lot of competent hot rod machine shops that do welding can weld this, if the seats can't fix it. May take a little digging around to find someone, but it is less expensive than buying a new head.

I would say if the crack is deep it will be dificult to repair, if any part of the crack is left after the repair it is a stress riser and will just propogate back into the repaired area, the experts should tell you this
