TR2/3/3A TR3 Opening Glove Compartment with out a Key.

Your're right Andy. I stand corrected. Sometimes my eyesight plays games when I try to read very small lettering.

Scott - The key number for the glove box can be found on the body of the barrel of the lock beyond the tumblers once you get the whole mechanism off the glove box door and take it apart. At least it's there on an original lock made by the company who made them originally named Wilton Breedon. Keys made by them are marked with their name on one side (or "W-B") and often the word "UNION" is shown on the other side.

Don,

Thanks for the info on the glove box code location. I was guessing that I'd have to knock the very small pin out to get the barel out and that's where the code would be located.

Note that I do have the original UNION/Wilmot Breeden keys for my first TR4A so I'm familiar with the original keys.

It is interesting that you had a single key for all your locks as well since that seems to match mine so far with the ignition and trunk having the same code.

I did contact Pete Groh and he responded very quickly. Only problem is the cost which is $25 per key. I was looking to get original keys for the TR3, both TR4A's and a 1972 Triumph Tiger which uses the same key. Since I have the origianl keys for one TR4A and the Tiger. I'll probably just get the keys that I'm missing for now (the TR3 and the trunk/glovebox for the second TR4A).

Eric and Don,

Since you both have cars with an original key that fits all locks, can you tell me what the head type is from the pictures that Don posted (round, 6-sided or rectagular with rounded corners) and if it's steel(silver-colored) or brass?

Thanks!

Scott

Mine is an "FS" key. See the second key from the left above in the bottom row. It has a round head. But then I notice that the one at the far left (botton row) is also an "FS" key. Who cares ? If it works, use it. I never had a judge at TRA or VTR ask to see my key to see if is like an original key !

Don,

True! I was just checking on whether what Pete was providing was the same as original or not for the TR3. Mine's an FP and he has it with a round head which matches yours. (Note that I have no keys for the car now.)
