Hello,

These hub caps are really on there! I believe there is a special tool required to remove them without buggering up the caps and/or rims. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Thanks a lot
Jim

I bought a 1/16" x 1" x 12" piece of brass at the hobby shop and hammered the last 3/4" over to 90*. Pops them hub caps right off...

I use a tool that looks like a screwdriver but the end is flared out wider and there is a "V" notch in the center of the tip.

They are used for prying out carpet tacks.

Time to get Joe Alexander on the case....

I use a small Stanley "Wonderbar". I looked up a link for it:

Stanley Pry & Claw Bars

Who knew there were so many different ways to pry things from other things?

Mine is an older version of the 55-045.

You need one of these, "combination" tools. Available on eBay from time to time.

<span style="font-size: 11pt">Here's the specs if you want to make your own.
I used a gas welding rig to flatten out the last 3" -3 1/2" so it would fit between the hub cap & the wheel, & also to braze the 2 pc together and lastly to round off the top of the short piece.
I put a dab of silicone seal on the rounded off top piece where it would touch the wheel.
It isn't indicated in the photo but the rounded off tip should extend about 1/2" beyond the last bend in the long piece.

This information is so excellent. Thanks a lot for all the comments and DIY solutions - and especially the dimensioned drawing!

I am going to go have one fabricated. Maybe I'll fabricate a few and take them to the next TR event and sell them since they are so hard to come by.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Should you fabricate a few of these devils; You can put me on your list for "1 of Them". Please advise what the cost will be. My Zip Code is "29671".

Thanx in Advance,

Russ

Let me know if you decide to make up a batch of these tools. I've been looking for one for a while and would also be interested in getting one if you make some up.
