TR2/3/3A TR3 Fender Mirrors

Don Elliott said:
Moses - Do you mean that an outside mirror law passed in, say 1965, can force TR owners who own older TRs to install them or face a fine. Isn't there some law about "retroactive" not being allowed. Does that mean that all TR owners in some states must have a catalytic converter ?

Maybe some states and/or countries are "free-er" than others.
Don --
It's not an issue of retroactivity. California (I am certain) and Minnesota (I am "pretty sure") have both required a driver's side mirror since before our TR3s were built.

My understanding of the seat belt laws in NY are that if your car didn't come with them, you don't need to add them. But, if you install them, then you must use them.
CA is similar, although it's not clearly spelled out that way in the statutes. However there is no exemption for a child seat, so without seat belts you simply cannot take young children as passengers.

When Illinois made seat belts mandatory, they made them retroactive a couple of years. I think they did it in 1964 and we had to add belts to our 1962. The car was made for seat belts as I think they were an option in ’62.

Why does any TR driver need them ? With the top down, you can hear all the traffic noise and I have found that I don't need wing mirrors.
:iagree:

When I repainted mine years ago I did away with the mirrors as well. I like the look better, and with the car being so small and open, I've never had a problem with blind spots.

Besides, all the 3's have that massive rear-view mirror right? :cooler:

Happy new year everyone!

Gavin - When strangers comment on the tiny dash-mounted mirror, I reply, "It's no problem. I only use it to look back to find out what kind of car I just passed."

Don, I installed this mirror so that I could see the cars about to pass me!

At first I had the original mirror in the car. At a driver's school, the instructor kept telling me, "Point this Porsche by." Or, "Point this Viper by."

I didn't even know they were behind me!
