I looked at Moss online and the engine ground strap (down by the engine mount) is N/A. They list availability for the TR4. Can that one be used?? Or, does someone else have the correct one available??

I've taken a bunch of 3's and 4's apart, as I remember its the same bonding strap for both. Braided steel (round), about 8 inches long, with 90 degree ring terminals at each end.

Interesting. My TR2/3 SPC has 3 different ground straps listed. The Stanpart number was 501495 to TS18912, then 303006 to TS60000, then 509271 from TS60001 onwards (or at least until the end of where this book covers).

No idea what the differences were, but I see that TRF has the last one, 509271 cross referenced to the same Lucas P/N as the factory 131116 listed for TR4.

But the one that TS13371 is wearing matches Stig's description, so I'm pretty sure he's right about the TR4 part being usable on all the TR2-3.

Art, what I have is a Moss number 736-080 which they show as NLA grounding strap, which I will use for my car BUT I can send you pictures and dimensions and I also have an extra set of helmet cable ends of the proper screw type configuration.
These are extras that I bought on ebay THOSE are the NOS Lucas units.

The Ground end is a ring terminal as described by Stig. Thay can be had at any competant starter/alternator shop. The cable would have to be soldered in, again they should be able to do that for you. And they should have the cable.

The helmet ends are yours for the postage if you can use them.

Now if you can tell me where I put my new generator, that would really help!

Email or PM me if they would work for you.

Cheers, Tinkerman

You are thinking of the battery ground wire. I'm talking about the engine bonding strap located on the front left engine behind the timing cover.

Problem is, that's a battery ground strap, while Art was asking about the engine ground strap. Eg, Moss 736-030

:frown:

Stig: I don't think that will work.

If this is the part you need, as I did recently, the only company that I could find with the correct terminations was British Wiring. These are made of tinned copper braided wire and properly terminated with a lug that is at a right angle to the cable. The big three will supply a cable that is terminated with a straight lug which is not correct.

Well I sure learned something today. Didn't even know about the earthing strap, much less where it went DUUUUHH.

Thanks for the info

Tinkerman the educated!

Well, at least you aren't asking why your choke cable is smoking !

Called British Wiring today and ordered the proper earthing strap for my car.
Ya gotta love the BCF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
