TR5/TR250 TR250 Prices

So by your observation, the Brits are paying twice as much for cars of similar condition than we are?

Most likely to do with scarcity. Very few TR's stayed in the home market. Most have been re-imported. They still have fewer examples available to choose from than we do. Which can have a significant effect on value.

hello all,

the TR5 is highly sought after in the UK and can be expensive, TR250's are less so, especially if in Left Hand Drive, which they are likely to be.

Alec

That's what makes it worse for me; I had a TR5 all those years ago and actually sold it to get a more reliable "grocery getter". The trouble was that it wasn't more reliable, so I sold that and bought an Elan Sprint (my second favorite car in the "somewhat affordable" price bracket.

Hi Folks;

I was just passing thru and thought I`d add my $.02:

Relative to the Value of the 250: "ITS ALWAYS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER"! The one problem I see is that the Engine Compartment is painted black; That`ll surely raise a Question; Why? My TR4A is "Spa White" and actually draws a lot of "OOHS and AAHS": What Shade of White is Yours? Spa White; Old English White or White/White? Personally I feel you should do well to get around $15K + or - $2K:

Relative to Ebay Listings: What I see a lot of people do is Open the Bidding with a Really High Figure; That puts a lot of people on the Outside looking in: Start Low ($19.95) & You`ll get a ton of bids (Mostly Tire Kickers but there may just be a couple who will Seriously Watch the Bidding): Have the Auction for 7 days, Starting on a Sunday; cause then you go into 2 weekends: You`ll be amazed what happens in the last couple of hrs: Having a Reserve is always a Good Thing: Should your Reserve "Not be Met" then You "Don`t have to Sell"!! Post it to Sell, "Worldwide", Then you get UK, The Aussies etc etc Interested:

Good Luck with Your Ventures;

Regards, Russ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

This may belong in the "too good to be true" category, methinks.

But, note that the reserve has not been met. Maybe it is for real and has a really huge reserve????

It is a scam. the buy it now is in the wrong place.

I agree - do believe this one has scam written all over it. What ya wanna bet all the bids are canceled by the seller?

Hi Folks;

In My Opinion; It surely is a Scam! No one on this earth can be that Stupid; Can They?

Does`nt Ebay pick-up on stuff like this or they don`t have a Clue?

I`m going to send him an Email requesting to see the Car Tomorrow! I`ll let You People know the response:

Having some Fun;

Regards, Russ

In flipping through the latest issue of Classic and Sports Car, that is often the case. But by and large, let's not forget that everything is generally more expensive in the UK. No offense to our English brethern, but wander into a Starbucks in London (which I try NOT to do), and one will find that the numbers listed for a cup of coffee are almost identical to what they are here -- except those numbers are in pounds and not dollars. The same for most of what you'd buy at the grocery store.

Hi There Peoples;

I just heard back from the Seller of the $4800.00 Super Sweet TR250; That includes shipping: Even if you don`t like it; You can send it back on his tab!!

I requested to see the car tomorrow: Seller says its impossible cause he`s in TX opening up a new Business:

I also asked for his Phone #, Email and Address of the Car Location: Rec`d. none of the above:

What he did suggest is to send him $2800.00 deposit monies and pay the Delv. Truck the Bal.

Thats it Folks;

"IT`S A SCAM FOR SURE"!!!!!!!

See Ya All Later;

Regards, Russ

PS: He was truly sorry that it took him so long to get back to me, As he`s so busy!

PPS: He also mentioned that he won`t be back in the Area for at least a Month!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting -
"This listing (230142914223) has been removed or is no longer available"

Auction was removed after less than 24 hrs open.
Maybe this crook is a member of the forum and reading this thread.

The line he gave toysrrus is the exact same one I got on a similar auction for a TR4A three months ago except then he was opening the business in AZ. The only payment option was a Western Union wire or Moneygram - that is like putting a stack on $100 bills in an envelope and mailing to someone you don't know. Probably the same operator.

Hi There CTC;

Your Right: "HE`S GONE; FLEW THE COOP":

I believe you may be correct in saying that he may be part of this forum & or at least accessing it: Who knows?

Its just strange that shortly after I posted his reply; The Listing was gone!

Frankly; I`m Glad: What a Shmock!

Regards, Russ

Wouldn't it be possible to nab someone like that by "sending" them the money, and instead notifying the FBI or whoever investigates internet/mail fraud and have them there to pick up the crook when the crook goes to pick up the money? Maybe I don't understand how Western Union works, but I do know that my dad was able to have the police catch a crook by telling them which Western Union the money was sent to, even after the fact (ie well after the thief came and got the money). This seems like the potential for a slam dunk sting operation.

That would be satisfying but perhaps authorities aren't all that interested. OTOH...

This is an oldie but if you've never seen the 'Powerbook Prank' that exacts revenge on an eBay scammer it too is a satisfying experience:

I remember when that one was fresh. Classic!
