Bob - I have a question if I may.

When you blasted the car what did you use to get the paint off but not wrap the panels? I thought "regular" blasting with a high pressure gun would distort panels...
 
WHOA - WHOA....where'd that come from! Beautiful car!

Regular blasting with the correct sand set to the proper pressure setting will not damage bodywork...now, put somebody who's accustomed to sandblasting oil rigs on a body panel & you have problems...but a good blaster who knows metal won't hurt a thing.
 
TDskip, I do not blast any outer body panels. I strip paint with a soft disc grinder and then a DA sander. I know how much to take off with the grinder so I do not tear up any metal! On this car I did blast a little on the back side of the quarter panels from inside the trunk. I was careful and did not worry about getting all the paint and undercoat off with sand. Lots of hand scraping and sanding! No Triumphs allowed here anymore!Once they start breeding you end up with a yard full. I will post pics of the MGB again soon. Bob
 
But Bob......there's only ONE of this TR so it CAN'T multiply!!! :laugh: Unless you have that whole Jurassic Park / cloning thing figured out! LOL
 
Once you say OK to one TR the second just shows up! I start with a 24 grit disc and get down to about the original primer. Then the DA with 80 or 100 to get it down to the metal. Using a 24 grit means that you have to pay attention! Its pretty easy to tear up a edge or put marks in the metal that have to be filled. If you try it the way I do then proceed with caution!

Course it could be like the person I knew who swore he wasn't an alcoholic 'cause he only drank beer. (the GT is the beer in this story :wh)
 
Here are some shots from yesterday. The car has been color sanded and polished and some bits are making their way back onto the hulk.The engine is painted and I may put syncros and bearings in the trans today or tomorrow. I need to get them in the car so floor space is increased in the shop. Bob

How do you do such good work so quickly!?!? Makes me feel lazy....

Did you blast the heater assembly and paint it or is it new?

How did you approach the brake assembly?

New brake lines or "just" cleaned, and if so how?

Its very hard to get a good pic with the light reflecting off everything. The hood pic shows the real color. The under hood black parts are powder coated. The steel brake lines are cleaned and painted with cast silver colored paint. The master cylinders are new. This car is not one of my restorations. It is just my standards for a quality repaint. Always happy to answer questions as to how I do this. Bob
 
Hey! I see overspray...you'd better talk to your Quality supervisor!! :laugh:
 
Peter, My quality supervisor is cooking breakfast and she will check it out shortly! If the overspray is on the distributor or oil line they are going to be replaced.They just block off holes. The steering and crossmember are black now. And I will clean the engine number plate before it goes into the car. I am still having fun working on this car! Bob
