Who knows...many factors could have been at play. Timing, programming, who knows.

I saw the interview and he had some very unkind things to say about the tire supplier. As loose as all the cars were he may have had a point. One thing I like about Smoke is that he always says what he thinks no matter what it costs him, and I believe this will cost him.

Must be a local programming issue. My FIX news affiliate had the post race interview, complete with him reaming Goodyear for poor tire choice. I saw part of the race the night before (trucks) and they were all over the track too.I think Goodyear supplies all the tires for the series, so maybe they are getting complacent.

Well if Tony had his way and a few others, as he's not alone in his thinking, their would not be another Goodyear tire on the NASCAR circuit until the problem is fixed. The compound is wrong but Goodyear won't admit it. Also, I didn't know they were awarded a 5 year contract by NASCAR as suppliers. I thought it was less than that.

I am a fan and happened to be watching. He did not thank anybody and went on about how bad the tires were. He said and names all the other racing leagues out there that stopped using the Goodyear tire and that they should bow out of Nascar "because they are crap". The last four words are a quote from him. They did not pull the plug unless they did it in your area but I watch it on fox too. The interviewer never pulled away and let him speak his mind. He has a right to. If he feels that Hoosier or Firestone make a better tire and he is concerned for his safety on the track, why should he not be a little upset. If they pulled the interview because of the word crap, then they are full of poo.

Tony speaks heis mind....

Hehehe, Gotta love a guy that isn't afraid to speak his mind, wish there were more like him out there!!!

Jeff Gordon also had a few non complimentary words about the tires. The track promoter has offered the track to goodyear anytime the want it for testing so they can bring a better tire for the october race

...Well Thanks for the video, They DID cut him off on Direct TV (satilite) , they swiched to some clip from a reality show or something, and it was no add or mistake.

Thanks!!!

Funny, they went on and on condemning Smokes comments on the after-race shows, and never said a word about Gordon having anything to say about the tires!!

One wonders if NASCAR has officially requested that Goodyear make the tyres this way deliberately......... Let's face it, no manufacturer wants to provide an inferior product because it can hurt their retail sales.

If they wanted to make the racing more "exciting" or unpredictable that would be the way to do it, and they have an exclusive with Goodyear. Just a "what-if" that's all, but I would venture to suggest that I might be on to something.

Hmmm, I don't know Steve. You wouldn't think that NASCAR would deliberately create a situation that would undoubtedly make a car less controllable when their so rigid on design specs and safety features. Also, why would other racing organizations ban Goodyear on their circuits in favor of other brands?

Tony has a point. At Atlanta, about 2/3 of the race is spent turning, 1/3 on a straight. The right side, especially the right front gets badly abused. Even before the race there was talk that Goodyear was more concerned about durability than grip and puposely chose a very hard right side tire. Again, before the race, everyone was talking about how that would be an issue- and all I saw during the race was everyone going sideays...and no tire durability issues to speak of. there was a definite problem and it seems clear that Goodyear went too hard.

However, to be fair, Goodyear is not alone- anyone remember the Indianapolis F1 race a couple of years ago and how Michelin screwed that up?

How could anyone forget that F1 debacle!! That's one for the history books!! :wall:

Funny, no-one has mentioned anything about the "phantom debris-on-the track" first yellow when it looked like Junior was running away from the field!! NASCARs way of keeping it competitive??

What gets me is this, EVERYONE had the same tire. If the tires were softer and stuck better on his car, so would everbody elses. I cant see how this would be better racing. I was watching Wind Tunnel last night and Dave was saying Goodyear did the right thing. A harder compound = fewer blown tires. At Atlanta I would think this would be a good thing. Speeds are usually close to 200 MPH. Imagine hitting the wall at those speeds. If Goodyear HAD brought a softer tire, Tony would be raging them about the poor choice of tire. Can't win for losing.

It has to do with staying off the wall, not just winning. Did you watch the race? I have never seen that many cars get squirrelly for the entire race no matter the setup. This has not been a problem there in the past.

But they did stay off the wall for the most part. If you had blowouts it would have hurt a lot more. As far as saying it has never been that way, the racing surface could be eating tires due to age. A hard compound may have been the only way to go. Look, all I know is they pay those Goodyear techs a WHOLE lot more than I make so maybe they know juuuuuuuuust a little bit more about tires than I do.

Salary as the determining factor about knowledge.

Wow - the anti-Peter principle at work. Where do I sign...
