Tony Barnhill - Discussion Thread

Just heard the news and stunned into silence.

I bought all of the major structural repair parts for my '65 B from Tony and spoke to him several times on the phone about the project and progress.

Deepest sympathies. His contributions to our nation and to our hobby will never be forgotten.

There had been a question recently about whether another thread was the longest one on BCF. I suspect that this one is and as it is all about remembrances and respect for Tony, then that says something to the man himself. This record may be hard to beat.

And this thread is likely nowhere near done!

And if Tony were posting, it'd be twice as long right now! :jester:

I just put up a box on the left (Under the Contact Admin) with the Top Posters! Tony is on top with OVER 25,000 posts! He even has Doc beat, and I didn't think that was possible!

We were tied just a couple weeks back, he got cagey and built up a 100+ post lead... it'll be no joy now when I DO go past his count. Can't poke at 'im no more.

...dammit... dammit, dammitdammit. :wall:

and Tony's could be understood, while some of Doc's.....

Then of course Basil could reset your post counter.... I'm just saying....

All I knew of Tony was what I read here, and that over a short time, but I can see the effect this sad news has had on the people who did know him. My sympathies go out to his family, and especially my wishes for a swift recovery for Jerri.

I said that a couple of days ago when it was at 158, we're now at 272 and counting.

Sorry, I missed that one; I wasn't post stealing.

I was taken by surprise at this news. Tony was a great man. I remember the first time I ever dealt with him. I had just picked up my non-running MG, and was on the phone with him as I tried to get it started. He walked me through replacing my first set of points on it and then it cranked right up. Other than me, he was the first person in 8 years to hear it run.

Rest in peace Tony! My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Sorry if I gave that impression. I didn't mean to. I just meant that I thought the same thing @158, and like Basil said, it's far from over. After rereading it I can see where you thought I might mean it that way, but I assure you, I didn't. My apologies. I have a BAD habit of not properly articulating exactly what I mean, and sometimes (o.k, most times) I come off as rude. Brain outruns fingers. I would never intentionally imply something like that, especially here.

I think Basil once said there are 11,000 memebers here and it's likely to go higher than that, and probably on for quite some time too.

Once again, my humblest apologies if I gave you that impression.

I only know of Tony from this forum, one that I always hoped to meet in person, such a great loss - my thoughts are with his family.

I was shocked when I read the news, and words are still failing me. Like many, I knew Tony only through this forum, and dealings with all of our collective passion. He was endlessly patient with my newbie questions, which I'm sure he answered a million times for a million people. But he also possessed a body of working knowledge that would rival any gear head in the world, and was just as quick to share that knowledge as well.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends, of which he had many. I know that he is in a better place, but for the family, loved ones, friends, students and acquaintances he has left behind, an unfillable void has been left.
Godspeed, Autoist!

I'm in total shock and disbelief...took my breathe away when I received the news...it just can not be...I'm so sorry to hear the news of his passing...my condelences to his family...Tony was and always will be a "class act" in my memory book...like many that pass through this forum I only knew Tony by his posting...he will be...and is missed...
