Tony Barnhill - Discussion Thread

Basil said:
the terrible news - Tony Barnhill has been killed in a head-on accident. His wife Jerri is in the hospital. Her exact condition is unknown at this time, but was described as "serious." [/b]

I am saddened to hear the report of Tony's death, Jerri's injuries and Shannon's loss.

It is my earnest prayer that Jerri's doctors are guided by God's hand, that her recovery is swift and complete, and that the love and support of friends and family surround her.

I never had the opportunity to meet Tony, but he and I exchanged MG-repair-related emails a number of times. His advice was always accurate, often enlightening, and without question, greatly appreciated.

Returning to his website I copied (and saved) his explanation of how he came to be known as the Autoist. It's amazing how accurately that describes the gentleman who remained ever willing to share his automotive experiences and advice.

To quote Tony (and Shannon), "auto-ist (ô 'tó-iste)n. 1. A specialist in automobiles. 2. One who produces, makes, operates, plays with, or is connected to automobiles. 3. A car nut."

Long live the memory of the autoist!

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Tony Barnhill. I spent several
days with him when I was building my car. He was a generous,
outgoing, great guy. His willingness to help others I can ascertain
was one of his best assets. My condolences to his wife and family.
He will be truly missed by all.

I only communicated with Tony a few times but I found him to be very knowledgeable and helpful. He was a gentleman and patient instructor.

I am saddened by his passing and his family's suffering and loss.

God bless, Pete

Although I did not no Tony...I was saddened by this tragic news. I will be praying for his wife and daughter. I would be happy to donate in any way possible to his memory. My deepest sympathy to his family memebers and daughter.

When we bought our first MGB in 2005 (there's never just one is there) I began searching for resources. Tony Barnhill was a huge source of information for me both in the things that he did directly (TheAutoist) and the things he helped to maintain (BCF among others).

I am sorry to hear of his death, and it is to my disadvantage that I did not know him personally.

There is not much I can say that has not already been said about Tony. I have never met him and only communicated with him thru the board and PM's. Over the time, I have participated in discussions with him I feel I was just getting to know him.
My condolences to his family and friends

Saddened by this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tony's family, Tony was a great person here, always helpful.
I wish the best for a speedy recovery for Tony's wife and I hope the rest of his family makes it through this terrible situation.
God bless.

I met Tony at the first (or maybe it was the 2nd) BritishV8 meet in Townsend when we camped next to each other at a local RV park. We hit it off right away and have continued a friendly correspondence over the years. He was high on my list of good people and it was quite the shock to read of his tragic demise. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

On my way out of the house to the truck at 0500 I paused to put hands on my GT that Tony was gracious enough to sell me several years ago. I tore the sticky SU's apart in his driveway and got them operational enough to get home.

He was a true gentleman with a wonderful family.

We are diminished...

Very sorry to hear about this loss. Our prayers are with the family.

I am so very sorry to hear of Tony's passing. My heart goes out to all of Tony's family and I will be keeping Jerri in my thoughts and prayers. With love from Scotland, Dave.

When I read some of the comments from Tony's former students I realized how much impact he had on so many young lives. It made me think of this song:

I'm stunned, this is terribly bad news. I was a customer of Tony's, I bought my first big order for my MG from him. I was literally browsing through the Autoist website a hour before I heard the news. My deepest sympathies go to his family.

Absolutely shocking news! I will miss reading about his new project updates.
My deepest sympathies to Tony's family and wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for Jerri.
