Whoa! good score! I got my set of B.S. spanners right from England (used, off Ebay) $50 for the wrenches, and 30 sumpin fer shipping. and an odd buck or two to get the cash transferred to him.
My bro's supposed to be getting me another handful of spanners and 3/8 sockets from his landlady sometime.(late hubby was from South Africa, and maintained his own Land Rovers)

I was parked on the side of the road with a few other British cars during a fun run. A guy rode his bike up and asked if I wanted to buy some old Whitworth tools he had been moving from house to house for 15 years. He told me what they were and how much he wanted so I took his number. Didn't even try to haggle, just handed over the cash.terriphill said:

Great score there. My Whitworth collection has about four wrenches. Of those, only two ever get used. I always keep my eye out when at garage sales and such, but here in Fl, most people here are moving from somewhere else, so no real old stuff shows up (at least in my area).

In the tradition of being British....the engineers "'cross the pond" created their own system of measurement when it came to cars. Instead of using Metric or SAE(or whatever it was called then), the Brits came up with Whitworth tools. They are a size sort of in between SAE and Metric. At least this is my VERY ROUGH understanding of things. I am sure the more knowledgable Guru's here will have a better explanation.
