Especially in the voice you had last week!

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

I think there are some snake shot loads for the 22. Think of it as a mini-shotgun load.

Great for tossing plates in the air & blasting them like Anny Oakley. I'm sure they'd work pretty well on an annoying bird if you could get close enough. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

BTW if you haven't shot that thing since 73’ how do you know you're still any good with it?

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

~thumps Mickey upside the head~

I have had the gun since 1973. And the bullet. I have also shot the gun since then. Just not *that* bullet. We lived in the country for 5 years. I shot tin cans several times a week. We shot skeet every weekend. Since then, I've shot often enough to remain accurate. I can still shoot it.

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

IF - & notice I said "IF" - you did hit him with the .22, he'd drop dead on the spot & there's a pretty good chance that somebody else within 1 mile of where you fired the bullet would also! The 'bullet' has to come down somewhere & that bird's not gonna stop its flight (or even slow it).

So, put that pistol down & back away, Janel!

IF - & notice I said "IF" - you use the 12-guage, even at close range there's a chance you'll miss that tiny an object what with the disbursement pattern of the shot...but, the shot will hit something somewhere - &, unless, your backyard is bigger than the normal city lot, you're gonna hit your neighbor's house or car or boat (or your own)

So, put down the shotgun & back away, Janel!

Get an air rifle or pellet gun & pop rounds at him until you finally get tired! Just make sure you're shooting them upwards at an angle, not towards the neighbor's - I've an air rifle that has the same stopping & destructive power of a .22 - just not the distance.

Or, better yet, pay a neighborhood kid to pop it with his beebee gun!

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

No worries, it's in the front yard.

Neighbor kids don't have bb guns, or bicycles, or roller skates, or outdoor toys. They have computers and Game Boys and MP3 players.

I'm shooting the sucker. In the middle of the night tonight if it starts squaking at 0'dark thirty. I'll aim toward my house to eliminate any risk of damage to neighbors' property or person.

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

Go to the local 'armourer' of choice and ask for "rat shot"/ "bird shot"/ "snake shot" for that .22... you'll get th' blighter, sure! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

You gonna tell Chuck to clear out before you start plugging away at the house or does he just get to take his chances. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

The shot style 22 shells are great at dispatching lizards and snakes so it should be perfect for a bird plus it should be less painfull to bystanders if you miss. Or there is always the live trap and swimming lessons version. A cheap bb rifle is really the best way to go though.

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

I killed me a snake once. Flat blew a plug out of it from 2 feet with a 12 gauge, then unloaded my pistol on it. Went back in for more bullets, snake was gone. Brian (then 4 or 5) drug it to the cellar door and stretched it out in the sun.

So I made him drag it back to the yard and plugged it a few more times.

Have I ever mentioned I HATE snakes?

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

I'm going to look just like that Nick Nolte mug shot after a 24 hour endurance rally.

Can't find a bullet anywhere in this house.

Do bullets go bad? I've had it since my dad died in 1973...

That's definitely SWAT material, we're all breaking the law by not blowing you in... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

STOP! If you are serious, you must wait and get one of three things:
1. an air rifle,
2. sub-sonic .22 ammunition, or
3. plastic cap, shot .22 ammunition.

Also, a package of firecrackers, to set off after each shot...those dang neighborhood kids...

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

Doesn't count if I can't find the bullet and if I don't know where a bullet store is. I did call Ace Hardware, they thought I was nuts. Good thing I din givem my name, hey?

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

Re: use aTo Kill A Mockingbird

Walmart has bullets?

I don't shop at Walmart. How about Target?

Wait, are you telling me you can just go to Walmart and buy bullets???
