There are different tie rod ends for pre and post-72 cars. Early is the Morris Minor rack, late is the Spitfire.

Sorry I don't have a the car or any pix to compare (only early type). I just know they specified by year and have different part numbers.

Yeah this is the problem of building a car out of spare parts bin, ten years on figuring out what is what is difficult.

The older (Morris-Minor type) steering rack has a 5/8-18 UNF thread.

The new rack uses a smaller, 1/2-20 UNF thread.

The changeover to the new style rack was made around '72, so your car should have the older (bigger thread) tie-rod ends (but it sounds like it's been changed to the '73 rack?).

In these older cars, it's hard to guess what has been changed before. It's easy to put a newer rack in an older car. And be sure you don't have the wrong steering arms. They looks similar but will not work properly and have a different taper-hole.

I hate the idea of you sawing off a section of the thread. Be sure the tie rod screws in far enough so that you have enough thread engagement....otherwise, it would not be safe.

Here's a link so you understand what a "steering arm" is. It's not labeled but it's just above "4a" in the photo.

The part I cut is the threaded bolt above the nut because it collided With the wheel.
the main sleave screwed on to the rack easily.
I ordered a new set if they show up and are the same ill will put them with the rest of the Spairs.
If not then I'll put those on.
focused on the jag this week before the eu inspection. It's making a clunk from the front left wheel when I step off the brake.

I had to grind a bit off mine. The tip would tear stick on weights off the rim. It's a really close fit and mine are supposedly stock ends.
