Thread Sealants

Has anyone any experience using thread sealants for brake or fuel lines? In my youth these were considered taboo but now it seems there are new products that may actually work. Are they worth using?

A properly maintained brake system should not leak. But if you choose to seal brake bleed screws, then Teflon Tape is the usual choice. Cut to fit and wrap (no more than 2x)in oppisite direction of threading.

TT is available in Plumbing Supply/Hardware stores. GONZO

Hello James,

thread sealant is totally unnecessary on brake components as the thread is not the seal. If there is a leak and the union is tight then either it or the component that it fits in is defective and should be replaced.

i use a little teflon on the bleed screw threads, to help seal them up when i use my mitivac. i do NOT use it on the sealing surfaces, only the threads themselves.
