TR2/3/3A THINKING OF SELLING/TRADING OUR TR-3B

With limited time and space, along with other considerations, the wife and I have discussed the possibility of selling our TR-3B, (68K miles, matching numbers verified by the British Motor Heritage Trust, together and running, but will need to restored eventually, but not in bad condition, not a parts car for sure), and getting a 1500 Spitfire thats overall in better condition and only needing some minor repairs. I've been accumulating spare parts over several years, (spare short block, couple transmissions, head, front suspension parts, etc.), that would go along with the deal. The wife likes the more modern comforts of the Spitfire, and next to the TR-3, the Spitfire has long been a favorite design to me. I posted some pictures of our TR-3 in my profile section.

That looks like a pretty nice 3...Aside from the 6 the 3 would be my next favorite TR...But I can understand how you might want to trade for a Spit, especially if you think you'll drive the Spit more often.

Splendid choice Don;I have a 1500 & its a wonderful car,and gaining in popular culture.I wouldn't trade mine for all the MG's in the world.Having any TRIUMPH in the stable is a no brainer.

Don -

Sold my '57 last year, and haven't looked back. It was my first full restoration, and came out better than I had hoped. Most folks couldn't believe I'd sell it, but it was time. I replaced it with a TR8 that I'm just now finishing up. It isn't the "classic" the TR3 is, but it's much more comfortable and has a much better feel on the road. (A LOT faster, too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

So, if it's time, let it go, but be sure and replace it - sounds like the Spit may be the one for you.

My bride used her TR3 as her daily driver for 13 years...sun or rain.....April thru November plus the occasional maintenance drive in January (in Wisconsin).

I traded it three years ago and I still am not back into her good graces (although two project TR3's are in our storage building..those apparently don't count as they aren't driveable).
A possible buyer?

No,No--say it ain't so. Not a classic TR3 for a Spit. You know they actually have roll up windows? Think of what your friends and neighbors will think. Just don't do it. I'm sure there must be therapy groups and meds for this. Slow down, breathe deeply and then start the TR3. Listen to that engine and you will do the right thing.
