How about shipping your tank to Gas Tank Renu? They did nine for under $250, (no shipping), lifetime guarantee. Here's one in Texas, closest I could find....

Dale: If you want to go this route, I'll accept
shipment, get it boiled out from a radiator shop and
ship it back. How about that?

If you want to wait for an amount, I'll get a quote
on Monday or Tuesday, if you wait that long.

Dale, you are making a mountain out of a molehill mate. Take a chill pill.

Rinse it. Put it back in.
Add a decent filter.
Drive it.

Watch the decent filter.
Change the papers as needed for a while.
It'll clear up and stop.
Job done.

You can get exotic - coatings, new tank, whatever when you have 5k on it. Until then, 1 good filter, watch it and drive the crap out of it is enough.

This is not a ~real~ problem.
Sorry if that offends you, because it isn't meant to. Look on it as constructive advice.

The car doesn't merit being on stands.
You shouldn't be in a funk.

Blown engine = not good.
Dodgy tank = minor problem.

Dale, PM'ed you. You got rotten gas. Not all of that came from a rusty tank. Take that picture and head for where you purchased gas and have them step up to the plate for repairs.

Dale, You might want to check the motorcycle shops. A lot of them sell the tank repair kits. You might need to buy 2 kits for your tank.

a cup of metho sans milk per tank now and again helps keep the water level down, as does keeping the tank full

Dale: This is beginning to sound kinky. Were there perhaps, a few black leather clad chicas involved? If the answer is no, this is the problem. Go get some and repeat the banging and clanging.

There is a Triumph TR4A TR250 TR6 aluminumb fuel tank on e-Bay. Aside from it being sold by someone who can't spell properly, or maybe it's a freudian slip, that might be your answer. I have no idea on how the price stands up.

The Vic Brit tank is cheaper, but will you be in the same position a year down the road if it starts to corrode?

A pleasant family sunday morning; Shadrach asleep in the flower bed, the Mrs doing her dainty
nails by the pool, mellow soft jazz playing, cool gentle breeze off the ocean while the barbarian annoys the neighborhood senenity by whalking in circles and cussin' a blue streak while shaking an old gas tank filled with scrap steel from WWII.

I got tell, for all the effort, there just ain't much of nothin' crud type in that tank.

I guess I'll have to design a Pharma grade fuel tank!

I'm in agreement here with a few others. Maybe flush it with Muriatic Acid but be VERY careful of the fumes. Especially with your lungs. Which may be enough reason not to flush with Muriatic Acid. Put it back in, fill it with good gas, put a good filter on it and drive. If you have had good luck with a particular station stay with it. Try not to let the tank drop below 1/4 full. Find out the schedule for the gas station when its tanks are filled and go the day after if possible. Give them time for their own tanks to settle after filling.

Not quite "trouble free" motoring, may require a bit more vigilance, but motoring at least.

Could very well have been just a tank load of very bad gas Dale. Was it a station you normaly don't use? Maybe filled up right after their tanks were filled which stirred up all the crap in their old underground tanks. With how quickly the problem arose, and to the degree, I really doubt your tank alone was the culprit.

I think that once the tank is clean, now that it's apart, it's time to fill it with gas and drive it.

This may be a bit unorthodox, but worth a try. Take a clear plastic jug with you when you need fuel. Pump some gas in it. If it's clean, continue on and fill the tank. If not show the owner and move on.

And don't get below a 1/4 tank is possible, so you can go to other stations.

I am thinking up a design concept with two fuel chambers.

8 gallon primary chamber that flows fuel downward via a J-tube thru a heppa filter and then bubble out the top.

The fuel the flows over the seperation barrier and flows
across a series of 10 micron sheets where it drops clean and
pure into a 4 gallon working fuel tank.

The fuel tank top unbolts to change out filters

I'm thinking marine grade, structural alumnum.

Downside- you limit your non-stop trips to 4 gallons.
Upside-you limit your weekends ripping out fuel systems.
