Think I 'Slammed" Her a Bit Much...

...first time on all 4 wheels since I've been playing with her...I lke the front height but the rear is about 1" too low...those are 205x50ZR15 Hoosier auto-x tires mounted on 15x5-1/2" wheels! At their widest, the tires are 8.75" wide.

...So, now its back up in the air & remove the 5/16" lowering blocks I built and possibly add 1 leaf back to the springs - for a start!

If you've not followed all my mods to the reae, you might want to go to https://www.theautoist.com/racing.htm & scroll down to about December 2005.

hehehehe - now the fun begins!

You know what I really like. It's my name under the number. Sooooo cool. Thanks Tony.

Well, if you gotta ride way down there Jack, mebbe Tony should put TWO leaves back inna springs! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Wow Tony! Don't get *too* wild about raisin' it. Looks really good "down there inna dirt where it oughta be!" Try one leaf, leaving the block in place first?

I measured her, Doc..front is 24-1/2" to top of trim line; rear is 23-1/2"....

....my stock '67 GT is 25-1/2" front, 26" rear

I say just remove the lowering block and check it again... That looks real close to where you should be! - if it's still a little bit low, it'll give you a weight shift advantage on the drag racing part... and removing the spacer will help eliminate wheel-hop/axle-torquing a bit more.

You guys wouldn't believe how light the components are on this thing. Especially the wheel tire combos, and the rear hatch.

Yeah, but, there's no fuel in the cell yet!

Hmm yeah, you might want that extra leaf back then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Wow! That is pretty low. What's the clearance on your exhaust pipe? Looks Great BTW! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I always considered my 78B extremly low. Measuring mine using your method to from the ground to the top of the trim line & get 25" up front & 26.5" in the rear. And I'm running 195/60x14s with lowing springs front & rear along with blocks too. I measure just about 3" from the ground to the exhaust pipe where the center mufler used to be.

BTW What gives with your "stock" GT being so low? Iszat normal? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

25-1/2" front, 27" (!) rear on this '64 with OLD 175 R 14's rear (No-Name brand), and *OLDER* XZX Michelins front. Butt-end is light as the tank is empty too. No suspension changes from "stock" so it sits high to me.

At 8 pounds per gallon (approx), 10 gallons max, toss sand bags in the trunk to put 80 pounds in there. See how low that goes and quick calculate if the blocks need to come out . I guess you'd rather pull the blocks out than add weight back on just yet. EDIT: I know you won't have NEAR 10 gallons of fuel aboard until it goes Historic, but just as "max load".

Well I figure my 26.5" in the rear is going to be pretty normal for my B, because I've got a half a tank and have about another 25lbs or 30lbs of junk in the boot.

How tall are those old 175 R 14's of yours doc? Do you know the 175/??x14's highlited in Red ? That number'd give you the height of the tire.

My 195/60x14s are 23.21" tall. Measuring from the top of the trim line to the center hub I get ~ 14.25" front & ~ 15.75" rear.

I didn't leave it OUT, Bret... "OLD" means PRE-?? ... They're specifically 175-SR-14's. Round and black./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

16" from hub center to top of trim line on rear.

Kind'a figured, just wanted to be sure.

Only way to find out for sure that I know of is to actually measure how tall the tires are.

Personally - quit being an old skinflint Doc, & put some modern rubber on that ride. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's a driveway queen ATM. I put the old rubber on it so's I don't need to fret over overspray, etc. It'll get new shoes before it leaves the yard. I gotta blast the wheels and repaint 'em first.

Took the 5/16" aluminum spacer I'd made off, switched the little spring leaf to bottom & added 5th spring leaf...we'll see tomorrow what that does....however, I've gotta chase the u-bolt threads & add about 1" of new thread to tighten everything up - remember, I removed the spring perches & pads.

Post us another pic in the morning tony!

SHE's LEVEL!!

Now, I've gotta roll the back edge of the wheelwells on the rear edge - got about 1/4" of clearance between tire & fender back there....that or cut the rebound bump out of inner fender & recess the tire a bit

...photo tomorrow

I wish I lived close enough to have been "hands on" in this project with you - I'd love to have my name on it too - hehehe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Well, lets see: Adam's just across the river in Decatur, AL..David Maples' down in Augusta, GA, Wray Lemke is over on the coast in South Carolina & Bill Wheeler's in Mississippi! BUt we get together to work on her from time to time.

My last name would've eaten all the advertising space - hehehe.

In actuality though... I've not had a car that's been reliable enough to make the trip outside of my wife's car. Maybe I can help put it back to vintage specs though! hehehehe! I figure the Alfa's gonna be a great long distance trip car!
