In mid- June we're planning on going up to PA.My Wife has relatives there,
mainly in the Allentown area.Trying to get ideas,so we can plan out our trip.
From there,we're planning on heading to the Center Point area, for a family-
reunion.Never thought I'd ever say "Iowa,in the Summer,& trip" in the same sentence.
I looked up "Things to see in Iowa" and it came up NOTHING".

(Just kidding).

Nope. How about knowing the caliber of disaster indicated of they have a pool table, T and that rhymes with P and that, stands for pool...

More relevantly (and sadly)

Looks like some interesting (to me at least) museaums - National Museum of Industrial History/ Lehigh and Keystone Model railway Museum/ America on Wheels Museum (someone here is a part of that aren't they?)

BCF member Dave Reese is a volunteer here -

Places to stay in Allentown -

Best thing to see in PA, (Beside Elliot) is the thank you for visiting Pa sign on your way out!
Can't say we hated it in western PA, but the winter months were what sent us away. The accumulation of "fat rain" during the winter of 1978 cinched it.

If there’s any grandkids involved the Crayola factory is in Easton, PA which is very close to Allentown. They have factory tours.

Eastern Museum of Auto Racing, Adam’s County, PA. Gettysburg, if you are into civil war history.

Is the Hershey factory still there and giving tours?
Hershey factory is fun for little ones. The AACA museum right next door was a lot more interesting for the tall ones.

If you go through Pittsburgh, there is a variety of great food. From Ritters for an awesome Greek Hobo omlet, to fine dining on Mt. Washington (arguably worth the price).

The Hershey Factory is still there. My wife took the grand kids there a few years ago so I guess it's still cool. Just up the road is the AACA (Antique Auto Club of America) Museum which is also pretty good. This museum is no longer connected to the AACA but does quite well by itself. The Yuengling Brewery is somewhere near by with tours. If your going to be in the area a few days, an afternoon at the Simeone Automobile Museum near Philly is very good. I have found this to be an especially interesting museum. Fred Simeone specializes in vintage racing sports cars that he tries to get before they have been "touch" or "improved" by any kind of restorer. He truly believes they are only original once. You will find cars such as 20's & 30 era Alphas, Porsches, Jaguars from the 50s and 60s, etc. He has the only untouched, unrestored Cobra Daytona Coupe. If you come up I-81 to Harrisburg, Pa. then head east on RT 322, I think, you will pass a Cabelas/Bass Pro Super store that can kill a few hours.
Good Luck, Enjoy your trip. (You also can come to Harrisburg via US-15 North after you take 95 to DC, go west around the beltway then 270 to Fredrick, Md. ) Oh yel, you can also take in the Amish stuff around Lancaster, Pa.. Its mostly on RT30 between Harrisburg and Allentown.

Hey Doc, Is this what you mean by Fat Rain. Last week it was 70 degrees here. Just got this last night. o_O

That's th' stuff, alright. We hit 90°F yesterday down here. Pleased to be FROM that area. šŸ˜‰

As for Pittsburgh "things to do and see," are there still tours of the Heinz plant? Is there even a Heinz plant IN Pittsburgh anymore? Someplace here I've still got a souvenir "pickle pin" from one of the tours we'd taken when I was a kid. And the Isaly's company had tours then too.
