I have most of the throttle linkage issues resolved but I have an unusual one that I have to deal with now. First of all my car likes to idle at 1500 to 2000 rpm.Way too high I know .If i lower the idle to 1000 rpm the car will stall out. Other than that the car runs fine and the plugs are a nice tan color. I can give the gas pedal a quick kick and the idle will drop from 2000 to 1500. I have tried adjusting the idle screws on the carbs but to no avail. Say I'm going 20 mph...I can take my foot off the gas and the car will continue at 20 mph almost like cruise control until I kick the pedal down and it drops a bit. Today I pulled over and parked the car ,left it running and idling at 2000 rpm, hooked my foot under the pedal and pulled it back and the car immediately stalled out and died. I believe the issue has to do with the gas pedal link bar(no.88 in the Moss catalog) where it attaches to the cross bar that runs across the firewall and is connected the gas pedal. I tried to find a picture in the Moss catalog of the cross bar and how it's connected so I could call the parts by their proper names but I have been unable to find a photo of the assembly? So here goes....at the firewall near the rear carb is a mounting bracket that holds one end of the cross bar(cross bar is not bent). At that point attached to the cross bar is a 4" long X 1" vertical steel plate(has the return spring attached to it)that goes up to the carb throttle linkage bar(no.88) in the Moss diagram.Looking under the hood when I move the throttle linkage I can see that the cross bar does not move at the same rate as the linkage....in other words it's loose there? How is the cross bar connected to that steel plate linkage so the two pieces can operate in tandem? Hope this makes sense. Karl I think there may 2 small pins that are missing that hold the bracket to the bar???? Anyone have a close up of this area they can post?
