The Red Huffaker MGB

IMHO, this car's unique history makes it especially interesting even among Huffaker racecars. It was originally built by a gifted independent racer who was friendly with the Huffaker Engineering team and their drivers. His name is Dwayne Anderson, and he's evidently as good with a wrench as he is with apexes. Anderson used a whole bunch of original Huffaker parts - including a complete Huffaker roll cage - and he put everything together so well that Huffaker Engineering didn't hesitate to adopt the car, put their name on it, and take it to the SCCA Championship "Runoffs" where Lee Mueller drove it to a second place finish. Twelve years later, Rick Gardella drove it to a fourth place finish at the runoffs. Now it's seen a comprehensive rotisserie restoration and it's ready for an active second life in vintage racing. I don't know if the red Huffaker MGB's story has ever been told in any printed magazine, but you'll find it in much more colorful detail on BritishRaceCar.com: Don Dickey's Red Huffaker #10 MGB (63 photos!)

I raced against this car for years, when Rick Gardella a drove it, and I raced the #9 Huffaker MGB. I also broker the sale of this car to Don, believe it or not we had tow Huffaker MGBs in Greenville, SC, at the same time, after Don bought this car, he came over to my shop and took a look at #9 while it was being restored. I almost bought this car myself in 1985 form Chris Doyle, but about that time my buddy who owned the number 9 decided to build a tube frame mazda RX3, and sell the #9 car, so I sanpped it up instead, since it was already being stored inmy garge at the time.
