The prettiest british car ever...

OK, my picks for the prettiest british cars:

1. Jag XK-SS
2. Triumph TRS
3. Lotus Elan

Lotus Elite (type 14)
Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
Lagonda LG45 Rapide
Riley Brooklands
Jaguar 'C' type

While I will never vote for an XKE of any sort (have never liked their looks, I know I'm in a minority on that one and I'm fine with it) I have a real soft spot for the C-type, Aston Martin DB4 (especially the Zagato) & Vantage V8's and the new AM's are 'dead sexy', Triumph Dolomite 8, MG SA, Lotus Elite, of course a TR6 (otherwise I wouldn't have kept mine so long /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)and oh so many more...

Looks like Roger and I agree on a few /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I love the E type, the AC Aceca as well as any AC really. But, I am definitely a sucker for an early GT6, and I love my BGT, too! Hers a GT6 and a D type.

Ontario plates on that GT6.......

Ever? IMHO, The E type Jag, convertible, the consummate culmination of post war design…ask any woman.

Close: the Big Healeys, and the AC, brut-ish beauty: the AC Cobra…

Never Ever, except maybe to put it on a list of cars that I will never own.

E-types just don't do anything for me. Never have. Always thought they were incredibly overrated. If they are truly as beautiful and awe inspiring as they are made out to be. Why do they struggle to surpass 100K at auction?

It's my opinion and I don't expect anyone else to necessarily agree with it or understand it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

My guess would be because they did make quite a few of them...and the 2+2 kinda brings the overall prices down.
I know the TR4 guys will argue this but I really like the looks of the TR6, not really beautiful, but very attractive none the less.

I know they made a large number but since a lot of people treat E-types like an Automotive form of rapture one would think the number shouldn't keep them from hitting 150-200K on the occasional sale. Maybe they are less coveted than then many want to admit. Or maybe people believe its a great car because enough other people think so as well.

I'm not intending to upset anyone just by disagreeing with the mainstream. XKE's just won't appear on my top ten list or worst ten if that really matters.

Ok, I'm in. Jaguar E type. I'd even give up my truck for garage space.

I really think it is the production numbers for the E type. If you look at cars that do demand the 150-200K mark at auction, they're either older, rarer or more desireable as a result of these two factors, or some nut job happened to be there. The E type is stunning, absolutely stunning. The only reason I don't oogle them so much when I see them is because I see them with some regularity-there are just plenty around. I tried to look up production numbers real quick but couldn't, I'm sure they're out there if I wanted to really look, I just checked wikipedia. A world changing car when it rolled out, and an incedivble design we won't see anything like for the rest of the automobile's life span.

Nobody has mentioned the LOTUS ELEVEN????

I think I'd put my top ten Brits:
Lotus Eleven
Invicta
AM DB4
AC Ace/Bristol/Cobra
Jaguar D-Type (XKSS has too much junk attached!)
Triumph Dolomite 8 (Corsica)
Lola T70
And there are plenty of Bentley Speed-Six and Rolls Royces with gorgeous custom bodies to fill the last positions -- and then some!!!

By the way, over the years many well-known car folks (including Jay Leno) have mentioned Adrian Squire's sports cars as among the most beautiful cars ever built.
Only seven were finished, so you are not likely to ever see one. All Brit, including a British Anzani twin cam engine.
The only decent picture of one I could find was of a very nice model (anyone else have any?).
I still prefer the Mini (and the Bug T35 if all countries are included), but the sweeping rear of the Squire *is* nice.

Also, many members of the artsy crowd thinks the Cisitalia 202 (a Pinin farina design) is the best looking car in the world. There is one on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art . I've seen it, and it is a pretty car.

It was a very hard decision for me to put the Cooper ahead of the eleven on looks.

Based on looks alone I'm still siding w/ the Monaco BUT.....

So far as a total package goes....The eleven has more of my attention.

Who said the Europa?......

*applause* (You're nuts but you have my respect)

The E-Type & AC Cobra?......Ya bunch of lemmings.

Just for that you should be forced to drive an Eclat to the next PTA meeting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I mentioned the Eleven early on but wrote that I think the Lotus 17 is prettier. For that matter I think the 15 is, too!
Have you ever seen an Eleven with its top up?

And the XK-SS has too much stuff hanging off it???

This topic has clearly gotten too hot to handle by forum and I suggest we all meet in a large room with lots of beer and settle it once and for all.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot the SQUIRE!!!

Absolutely --- one of the most gorgeous cars ever. (And one of my father's all-time favorites, so he'll be angry I didn't mention it.)

If I recall, only about 30 were made?

Yep, the Squire for sure, and no-one has mentioned the old Riley's!

I think my first choice is the Elite. (BTW, I think the photo from Automobile magazine is was one of the least flattering I've seen.) And the E Type would be my second choice. The Elite just has a simple purity about it.
