The news from China

I read that China is building an $86 million "International Auto Museum" in Beijing. It will be primarily devoted to Chinese cars. I don't know how much of that money goes to the buildings and how much to the collection, but I imagine someone will have lots of fun populating it. They hope to have it (and 999 other new museums!) ready for the 2010 Olympics.

Also read that Malcolm Bricklin (who brought us the Bricklin safety/sports/whatever gullwing car, and brought Subaru and Yugo to the US) has given up the idea of importing cars made by Chery (Chinese) to the US and now wants to design and build his own again. Busy guy!

THose Bricklin's were Canadian built no?? Seems to be quite a few up here.

AMC Hornet hardware and instruments/switches. Hateful cars. Once took a Bricklin as a trade for an Alfa Berlina... think I "allowed" a few hundred for it. The owner was glad to be rid of the thing. Sent it off to auction rather than have it "lyin' about" on the lot! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

But with that fancy vacuum formed finish on top of fiberglass they've always managed to look like they're in better shape than they really are. Of course, they share this quality with several other plastic bodied cars many of us covet.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

$86 million would probably buy every Chineese car ever made....
Oh well. We'll have to see how this Chineese car importing thing developes over the next few years.

I have this weird desire that among many other things made in china... they managed to secretly copy every great sportscar from the 50's through the 80's, and we've just not been privy to them yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They have, and we are privy to them but they are only 1/18th scale versions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Mine is a copy of a 1958 Plymouth Fury. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hey, I just wanna be the first guy into Cuba after Fidel goes...with lots of cash & a tramp steamer!

They were built in New Brunswick

Yep... I just went through the history of them on conceptcarz.com... Good site. Has lots of the odd "forgotten" cool cars. I'm still working my way through them all... So far I've done: Alfa Romeo, Delorean, Bricklen, and DeTomaso. All awe-some cars!!!!! Glad I own one of them, but now I'm adding to the list - might be a bad site in that regard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
