Got in the GT this morning and got half way down the drive way when the engine erupted in a loud squeal. Immediately I thought oh @#@# there goes the alternator. Turned around and took the PU to work. Went to a bolt place here in Ukiah (great one by the way) and got 4 each of a 7/16 by 20 set screws and Allen head bolts (wanted to see which looked better). I decided that if I had to change the alternator then I was going to remove the smog pump so I could get to everything. Wouldn't you know that it was the smog pump that froze up and I removed everything in less than 15 minutes and at a cost of less than $3. ON the road again.

Thanks Doc and others for the correct thread to use on the smog.

It's always nice when the piece you were thinking about removing finally fails so you can. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Kenny,

Snow here again last night. I needed a radio for the GT and was waiting for other things to get fixed (Dad is always last on the list), found out my son changed the stereo in his ZR2-S10. He said the CD did not work. Perfect!! I just want a radio for the GT so I got him to give me his old stereo. I have to buy a power plug as he threw his away after putting in the new system. I even got the old 100 watt base booster.

Hehehe...I had a similar incident when I put a new thermostat in my B. When I removed the top rad hose at the 'stat housing, I caught most of the coolant in a bucket, but some of it managed to get past it and onto the belt, pulleys, et cetera.

I wiped it up and didn't think anything else about it...until I started the motor after I finished and the car let out an unholy shrieking/screeching sound. I immediately shut the car off, thinking I had somehow seized something or really fouled something up.

Then...my brain caught up with my adrenaline. Coolant on the belt = unholy shrieking/screeching sound. I wiped the belt off some more and applied some belt dressing. Squeak gone. It's those little things...
