The Darned Cat!

What's a good way of discouraging a cat from sleeping on the soft top of a TR6? :cryin:

Why discourage the cat? They keep the mice, rats, nutrients,
armadillos and badgers from dwelling behind the seats. I'll tell
ya, it really gives one a scare to have a badget pop out at ya
while driving down the expresso at 70mph.

I say- keep the cat!!

We used SSSCAT to keep the cat from jumping on our kitchen counters. Has a motion detector built in to first set to spray compressed air and beep. Then after a couple of blasts, we set it to beep only as a deterrent. As soon as she heard it beep, she was gone. But when they leave FAST, the leave with their CLAWS OUT so be aware. Worked like a charm.

See it in action here:

My brother and sister-in-law had a cat that they loved so much they bought a collar, line and runner for so he couldn't get out of the yard and get hurt.

The dumb cat hung itself. To this day I still say it was suicide.

True story!

Moggies seem to have common bad habits at both ends of the world.

Asked the vet and he reckoned the attraction of a soft top would be the warm vynil and the height. While snoozing away up there nothing much can sneak up on it. (except me)

Yes, tried the garden hose and it departed very abruptly, but with scratched duco from the frantic descent.

A cuff with a broom works, and vacuum cleaners spook them. Get near with the portable car vac and the cat rockets off, but again endangering the duco.

Perhaps the answer is just to turn a blind eye. Ours, being smallish, doesn't appear to harm the tops, and then I don't risk awful retribution if I get sprung zapping the thing !.

Dale - that is a *great* picture!

Something tells me the cat owns the car, but kindly allows you and Wendy to enjoy it from time to time. In return for a nice dish of left-over tarpon?

I just roll up the windows or use the tonneau to keep the hair off the upholstery and consider that a victory.

Thanks for all the superb anecdotes and suggestions!

I think I am going to try some spray called "Kitty NO!" from the pet store ... it is supposedly safe on most surfaces. I may start with just a smattering around the bottom edge of the top ...

Or one more, Julian: Cats cannot stand the feel of
putting their paws on wax paper. Too slick, too
smooth. You could try taping with blue painter's
tape some wax paper. One last idea.

For more thoughts on the subject, go to the Restoration and Car Care section. There is a long established thread on this subject. It's still on page 1.

What's that they say? "Dogs have Masters ; cats have servants".
I've been around cats all my life, over 60 years, and I have yet to find a humane way to give one an attitude adjustment
