The Battle Begins

Whatever will we do now????? Crypty is running?
What's Tinster going to do??
Come on now, something's gotta happen.

Not wishing you ill will, Tinster, but what if you
run out of things to post?

I know..... we'll find a great deal on a Jag, how
about that?

I'll smooth it over with Pedro, have him contact
you....better yet, have him contact your wife,
and we're back in business.

Well, he's got a clunking from the rear end.

So, I would recommend someone who's got an extra pumpkin, send it to the Tinster. He can tear it down and we can walk him through rebuilding it. He's proven to me, that it would not be an insurmountable task for him (The side covers just will not take a wrench inside them, so we're safe there).

And we can expect a few driving down the road videos from him.

Film at 11:00

A fierce battle it was. Crypty refused to fire up
and was laughing in Ben's face.

But Crypty was unprepared for Ben's frontal assault.
Ben hunkered down and stripped down Crypty's carbs,
reset everything, cleaned up the plugs. Amos offered
up some help and before long the engine was spinning.

Dale set the timing to 12 degrees while Ben tweaked
the carbs. Crypty was overpowered and surrendered for
the evening. Now we will see if Amos can go the distance
and log 500 miles without any sneak attacks from PDO Pedro
and Crypty.

Ahh. after that video we toos a spin around the neighborhood, then on down the road a bit. Amos has a sweet purr.He feels like a good TR6 should. engine pulls nice and solid, suspension feels nice, tight and responsive (espcially since an anlinment has not been done since the total rebuild). I think Amos should be emerging soon.
There is the classic TR6 clunk in the rear end. COnsidering that Dale had replaced EVERY other joint in the rear, that pretty much just leaves the diff itsself. It's not a bad clunk, and I think that by not hammering on the car, it'll probably hold for a good long while.
Well..of for more fun in the tropical sun. Adios!!!

That's kinda what I figger'd. What a great vid! Looks from here like Amos HAS emerged. WOOHOO!!

I just looked over some things that Dale asked about, then we dialed things in a bit. We looked at some potential vacuume leaks, and anything that may have caused any carb issues, then I took the carbs back to a "bench setting" got crypty fired and up to temp, then set the mixture and balanced the carbs. then with Amos purring Dale reset the timing, and we double checked a few things.(closed the bonnett on the FIRST try. and it opened again too) then it was off down the street! We shoulda ripped past Pedros house. hehehehehe

FWIW, the diff in my TR3A was pretty loose when I got it. It's lasted me over 100,000 miles and I do drive the car to it's limits (and sometimes beyond). Even barked the tires in 2nd before the wide tires & alloy flywheel.

Can't prove it, but I believe the Valvoline full synthetic gear oil I use has helped with that.

WOW ! Way to go Guys!
When I saw you with your whole upper body in the maw of the beast I thought for sure "yous was a Gonner!"

As we all wonder Dale, Is there a book in this?

Personally; I`m Confused /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Hey, hey now!

I had a 54 XK120 while I was growing up. Great car, but it wasn't until I got into a friends one about a year and a half ago, that I realized I was still not full height when I had the Jag. As I couldn't stretch my legs, like I did as a teenager.

And I can stretch my legs in my TR6, course the seat track has been "adjusted" at its mounting, which you couldn't do to a 120

You weren't part of The Last Open Road trilogy by any chance??

Hi Ray;

Your right about that! But, there is still nothing like driving a Series I OTS: /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

I also belong to several Jag Clubs / Forums but the "BCF" is still one of "THEE" best for "ALL MARQUES":

My Dad had a lodge in the San Bernardino mountains that he was trying to buy for a few years. I used to drive down highway 38 over to Riverside, where my Mom lived. One day I was zooming down the road, doing pretty good, proud of my driving capabilites, as I was passing people right and left.

Came to a straight stretch of road just before the Ranger Station at the turnoff to Yucaipa. ZOOM a Ferrari FLEW by me. Caught up to him at the Mobil gas station down in Mentone. 4 seater Ferrari with Nevada plates on it. So logically assuming the driver was not a local, so probably not that familiar with Highway 38, and I was, yet he blew my doors off. Good comuppance for me that night.

Dale and Ben,
The only thing that video was lacking was the ticker tape!
Good work!
