As Grantura said, it sound like a 1956 generator. I have several cores, one just might have a 1955 stamping. I've done this before for a friend with a 58 TR3. I believe the stator will interchange and you can use your rotor and endbells. If there is a band, you can have that too. Give me a few days to look.

Most end plates interchange. You need to check the clocking of the end plates to make sure that they match your application.
 
There was and maybe still is, a discussion on this on the BBS site. The solid sided generator seems to go back farther than originally thought. Mine has a 9-56 date on it and is probably not the original, but might be period correct. It was even stated that it could have been a factory warranty replacement in the cars first years of life. It's staying on what ever the case.

How did I pull the brushes back? Before putting the end plate on, I first pulled the springs back and laid them against the side of the brushes, which held the brushes in the open position, then when 3/4 back over the commutator, I released them with a dental pick. After that, everything just slid back together. PJ
 
Ah, right. Are you doing dentistry work now to finance the restoration cost?
I am a sectic when it comes to these stories of what was done or is a so called "option". I would probably leave it as well, as you are not restoring the TF to 100% correct anyway.
 
Ouch! Im a sectic? Actually looked up the word sectic and it didnt exist.I thought I might learn something. Realized it might be the word skeptic to be 100% correct. Ive been watching this restoration,as Im starting on my TF in the spring and the level of pride in workmanship and detail is on par with my own. If making it better than new is not 100% "correct anyway",then you could say that every show winning restoration is essentially wrong. Throw some over spray,bare metal,oil leaks,and other shoddy get it out the door work in there and we'll call that 100% correct.I like what I see. By the way Paul,did you erect you Miracle Truss garage yourself? I have the same brand building 30By40 built with my own two hands.100% correct? Hope so,as it hasnt fallen down. Good luck with your TF even if it's not deemed 100% correct by some. Maybe you can say 120% better than new when it's done.
 
I did not mean my post in a bad way. Yes, I did miss spell. I tend to type and not queck my spelling, etc. I will not discuss what is show worthy or totally original, as that was not the intension of this thread. I have done many of these vehicles and know what is over done and correct.
Paul, all the best and look forward to many more pictures! The Dentist bit was a joke, BTW.

No worry guys! As I said before, I'm building it to drive and enjoy. I made that decision when I first stripped the car down and found enough issues that the cost to make it a 100 point car would probably not be to far behind doing a 150 Jag. Well, fairly close anyway, Grin. :jester:

D, I really hate using a dental pick, as it reminds me of my dentist who, when he crawls into my mouth, he takes 3 or 4 of them in there with him, I guess just to keep my attention! Do they have a dental torture school? They always seem to go right to a tender spot, jab it with a pick and ask, does that hurt? Oh, sorry. That'll be 200 bucks please! :devilgrin:
 
Yes I do, Paul. Every time I go in it is in the $1200 range. I mention that I am half temped to pinch some of his tools to use in the workshop! Don't you just love when they start to ask you questions when your mouth is full of gear?

I've been enjoying the progress and the pics. The pride and enthusiasm comes through very well. Got my own project (Victor MGTF) going right now at about the same stage as yours. Would like to post some pics, especially since I have questions, but do fear the paint police coming up to bite! Keep up the fine work and keep us posted! Scott
