Yes APT instruments are the gaugeguys.com.
Take the seat out? I just replaced mine (after the repair) and it was a 10 minute ordeal with no problems. Did I do something wrong? The only thing a removed was the Tach, and the lower dash backets.

I left all that in-situ. My hands are small enough that I could get up and behind the dash, undo the nuts, get a wrench on the oil sender, take the bulb out and push it through.
Replaced in reverse order. I was prepared for a fight with the dash and or tach, Jeff talked me out of it "If I had small hands".

No No. There is no way I could get the oil line off from behind the dash. I had to pull it out, and the extra room provided by the absent tach was necessary for my ham fists.

The wife suggested I use a wire coat hanger to keep it still with one hand and wrench it with t'other. worked a treat, spanner with a handle long enough should get there 1/64 of a turn each time.
Problem with my method is, that the oil line remaining, is still in the grommet, threading the new temp sender through with the oil line already there grommetless, is something that I haven't figured out yet. Might use furnace putty.

If you do take your old gauges out to clean them, be sure to use only clean water on the faces once you remove the chrome bezels. The white paint on the old gauges is easily removed by detergents and soaps. When you put the bezels back on you may find the glass is loose without the petrified rubber goo that you'll find during disassembly. I use rubber tubing (or window screen spline) behind the bezel in place of the goo. If it's not quite tight enough, cut a doughnut gasket out of black gasket paper to go between the rubber tube and against the glass. This will make more sense when you go to put your gauge's back together.

I have a 76 MG Midget with the dual oil pressure & temperature gauge. My oil pressure gauge works fine but the temperature gauge needle is stuck about 1/4 of the way off of the Cold mark. I don't know if the gauge is the problem (needle stuck) or if the sending unit is bad. After reading the threads here I can see that it really doesn't matter since the temperature sensor is permanently attached to the gauge. I emailed a Smith's Instrument repair shop I saw in Hemmings Motor News and asked what it would cost to repair the gauge. The name & email address are: Nisonger Instruments in Mamaroneck, NY. info@nisonger.com I will also look for a new gauge assembly. Does Moss or Victoria British sell new gauges or sell repair parts for gauges? I didn't see anything in their catalogs.

They are repairable, some folks have, but takes a real bit of learning.

Tony, isn't the temp gauge on the rubber bumper cars electric? Should be a temp transmitter on the water pump housing.

If Tony has a dual gauge I presume it is all mechanical. I've never seen a dual gauge with electric movements but I sure wish they did make them that way. That would make repair a much more pleasant experience!

The dual gauge (Temp & Oil) on the 75 & 76 rubber bumper Midgets is not electric. It is a mechanical gauge. The 77 & later Midgets used electrical gauges.

I think it was '78 or late '77 the electric gauge came around, mine still has the mechanical one.
