TR2/3/3A Tell me there is a trick to removing lower control arm pin...

Just to close off this thread -

I finally got welding gas and time to finish this off.

I made the inner bracket from 12 gauge - slightly thicker than original.
The folding of the bracket took quite a bit of time, might have been easier if I had a press, don't know. If you are stuck having to do this, cut an extra couple of blanks rather than refolding your first try.

Procedurally, it is impossible to use both the outer posts as the guides - with the shape of the pin, you can not physically slide it through both. What I did was fold back the front pin to its original position and welded. I then loose fit the bracket in place having removed the rear mount to get everything in. Between the front guide and the front side of the upright you actually have a pretty snug fit and I have confidence that things are aligned.

I measured 15 times and then welded on the rear mount and then finally the inside bracket.

I used .30 wire on my mig, "10" voltage and 30 wire speed to get penetration on the pin. The result is fat gloppy welds, but I have confidence in the bond. On the upside, the original welding wasn't the prettiest either - so my welding doesn't look too far out of place.

Anyway, probably 4 days of work, take off a day of drilling and you could probably do in 3 or less - 4 days to get to where most others start... Anyway, if you are buying a frame - check the pins!

Cheers,
Kerry

Kerry,
congratulations for completing a job that sure appeared to be not possible to us "non-mechanics.

Charley

Thanks Guys - gotta admit it was a frustrating and slow job with lots smashed knuckles and choice words... painted the frame up with por15 right after I was done so at least I had something shiny to look at (and it covered my welds)
