Suspension Bushings

Does anyone know of a chaper source for polyurethane suspension bushings than the usual suspects?

Will the Triumph Spitfire bushings from Moss work for the front? What about the rear? Will another LBC universal type work there?

thx!
Darren

As far as I know, the front A-arms are Spitfire size. Rears are similarly sleeved in steel, not sure what they're from. 1.385" O.D., 0.441" I.D. (approximate), and the outer sleeve is 1.250" L.O.A. Inner sleeve is 1.488" L.O.A.

The OEM part has: "EX31525" and an "AR" in raised lettering in the rubber.

Hope that helps, Darren. If you do source 'em, please let us know who/where?

Is that info of any value, Darren? Three days and no feedback is disconcerting. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Sorry, typically avoid surfing at work, and have been busy in garage at home. I called a Lotus parts supplier and they said the OEM type bushings are nearly equivalent to the urethane. A big change when you upgrade a soft MGB, but the Lotus OEM bushings were already quite stiff.

This is a project for next winter, just thinking about it a bit now. I need to do my MGB while I'm at it...

No big thang, just used to a more rapid response from BCF posts. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I understand perfectly. Don't endanger your job with trivia!

These rear bushes I have are NOS for the Elan, I measured 'em for ya in case you were on a "hot" mission. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif They are REALLY stout, steel inner and outer shells. I wasn't certain just why you'd look for a poly substitute, but figger'd it'd be something you may use to source 'em by size. I'd be concerned with replacing the originals with something stiffer as the increased shock could introduce some detrimental frame stresses. My frame is cracked at the lower diff "steady rods" mount point just due to my heavy right foot over the decades. The Thompson plan for re-enforcing the standard frame is my "Next Order of Business".

I'll keep digging to see if I can find what the bushes "cross" to. It'd be good info to toss in the Wiki as well.

A full and complete cross reference on all parts would be super helpful. I know San Francisco Lotus Club website has started this to some degree, but it doesn't cover everything.

Yup. Lotus West had a fair one back-when as well, but so far I've not seen that on line. Can't find my copy of it in this pile I call home, either. But I live in hope. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
