Drove home fom my holidays yesterday and saw lots of interesting cars cruising northwards on the M25, M40, M42, M6:

9 (!) <span style="font-weight: bold">Aston Martins</span>- 7 new-ish <span style="font-weight: bold">Vantages </span>but with 1 <span style="font-weight: bold">DB5 </span>and 1 <span style="font-weight: bold">V8</span>
7 New-ish <span style="font-weight: bold">Bentleys</span>, 2 convertibles and even an Estate car?!
8 Lotus <span style="font-weight: bold">Elises </span>& an <span style="font-weight: bold">Exige</span>
3 TVRS a new-ish <span style="font-weight: bold">Tuscan </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold">Cerbera </span>and an older <span style="font-weight: bold">Griffith</span>.
Too many Porsche, Mazda MX5s, BMW Zs to mention.

Interesting older cars:
<span style="font-weight: bold">Healey 100-6</span>
2 <span style="font-weight: bold">Spitfires</span>
3 <span style="font-weight: bold">MGBs </span>- 1 RB GT & 2 CB
1 <span style="font-weight: bold">MG Midget </span>- on a trailer....
2 <span style="font-weight: bold">Morgans </span>- 1 flat grilled.
An <span style="font-weight: bold">Austin A40</span>
1 <span style="font-weight: bold">Jag XK130/40/50 </span>and a <span style="font-weight: bold">MK 2 Saloon</span>.
A <span style="font-weight: bold">Cobra </span>replica (had to be... I think)
1 known <span style="font-weight: bold">Caterham 7</span> and another that might have been a kit replicar.

Furrin stuff:
Bathtub <span style="font-weight: bold">Porsche</span>
<span style="font-weight: bold">Citroen DS19</span>
over 14 <span style="font-weight: bold">Messerschmitt micro-cars </span>in three groups - must have been a club rally.

American cars:
Mid-50s <span style="font-weight: bold">Mercury Montclair </span>(!)
A <span style="font-weight: bold">Plymouth Fury </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold">Dodge Charger </span>(in Dukes of Hazzard paint )
A mid-70s <span style="font-weight: bold">Corvette</span>.

And the one that made my day: while driving north on the M40 between London and Oxford a <span style="font-weight: bold">Bugatti Veyron </span>passed me. (of course it would, do I really imagine I might pass it?) He was only going about 90, just a little faster than the rest of us....

A very interesting car spotting trip... :driving::yesnod:

now all I need is a holiday to recover from my holiday....

Anyone else see anything as interesting over the weekend?

There was a wasp in my garage, sigh.

Neat stuff you saw.

I saw a nice mix of Maseratis, Lamborginis, Ferraris, and Bentleys, and a DB9 yesterday. But that was because I stopped by the recently expanded Bentley of St. Louis. :jester:

I took the Healey to return a couple of movies Saturday night (rare low-humidity summer day in St. Louis) and saw four headlights in a horizontal arrangement pull up behind me at a stoplight. I initially thought it was a Vette, but they seemed too far apart. Plus the rear view mirrors in the Healey give you limited data. Regardless, when I arrived at the next stoplight, a Ferrari Mondial pulled up next to me with a guy, his wife, and two kids. All in unison, they yelled "nice car!" I yelled thanks, complimented their car, the light turned green, and they were off. I hope they were talking about my car and not their own...

Panoz Esperante, the only one in the state. Am told it was Don Panoz' car...

Hi James,
What you saw on Sunday were cars driving home from the 3 day Silverstone Classics meeting, over 4000 classic cars and 600 Historic Racing Cars on show and racing. I was there for all 3 days it was incredible.
Look on https://www.silverstoneclassic.com for full details

Kind regards
Tony

I was wondering if I was missing something- particularly with all the Messerschmits convoying.

I forgot to mention the Italians I saw too. A couple of Ferraris (308, 355) and a Maserati Merak.

A most interesting drive....

I need to get out more.

I saw a BRG Elise yesterday in Hermatage Pa.

About drove off the road while I was gawking.

(We just don't have many sightings around here)

Friday I saw a red TR3 in the parking lot of the Tyler Arboretum in Media PA. When we finished touring the special Treehouse exhibit, it had left the lot, so all I have is this photo of the interesting dashboard treatment.

Dave: If that is an original interior it is quite rare indeed. Known as "wicker" or "metric" pattern and available only on TR-2 and 3 when gray leather was specified for the seats.

quoting from Bill Piggott's, "Original Triumph TR2/3/3A",
page 39:
. . . .<span style="font-style: italic">mention needs to be made of the rare 'wicker' or 'metric' trim material used on some very early TR2's and again on some of the first 2000 or so TR3's. This was a vynide-type material with a curious cross-hatched pattern in relief</span>. . . .

and again from Bill Piggotts's, "TRIUMPH TR2,3,&3A In Detail"
page 54:
. . . . <span style="font-style: italic">a strange quirk on 1956 model year TR3's ordered with optional grey leather trim was that the Vynide that came with this trim was finished with a strange "wicker" style pattern, quite unlike the surface of the trim in any other colour. This patternhad been seen before on a handful of the very earliest TR2's - it was almost as if the trim shop had discovered in a corner a few rolls of this odd fabric and had been determined to use it up on early TR3's. . . </span>

It would be nice to know more about this car!
