Sump Plug

AJ,

Both my original drain plug and the magnetic plug are 1 1/8".
1 1/8" socket fits both.
BT7 motor.
Good luck.

Thanks guys. I think AHspares are still working. I'll get a new plug and rip the old one off but the car is'nt going anywhere right now. The police are stopping people who are out and about around our way unless they have a good reason for being out.
I've got a 1-1/8" socket but I think the old plug is too damaged as it was slightly too big and I thought it might be the wrong size and cause more damage. Most stores are closed over here so getting a new wrench delivered by trial and error isn't on as I didn't know the size!
On the other matter, these seals worked on my MG.

I took the plug to a big flea market in Sacramento and found the perfect fit with a nice long arm (15 inches) to give a good leverage. It is marked 1 1/8 - 1 1/16 and weighs 2 ounces. I don't remember which side was the exact fit.

Dug up my old sump plug. 1-1/8" wrench is pretty sloppy. Probably got bunged up from years of using them.

Very little grinding would be required to take it down to 1-1/16" (1.062"). I see from the chart 28mm is 1.102" so chase off the bungups and that should fit. If I was using this anymore, would probably take it down to 1-1/16" instead of buying a 28mm...[Edit:] or the 5/8W whitworth that's 1.100"

Presumably the plug hex being dressed over the years is the reason for all the different spanner sizes.

I have one that takes a Whitworth socket (can't remember which ATM) after an encounter with a file years ago.
