Tom, I'll wager that your car should have been built with SUs; from the VTR web site: "CTC 62191 - Stromberg carburettors deleted and twin SU HS6 substituted, still on same intake manifold, TW needles." And Randall is essentially right in that Triumph got tired of paying BMC far more for SU carbs (which BMC owned) than BMC's own divisions were paying...so Triumph developed their own version of the SU. Argue all you want about which is better, but many historical references note that Triumph's own test drivers couldn't tell which TRs were equipped with which carbs during testing!
