SU H-1 Phenolic Spacers

I am a bit confused. I am trying to undo some previous Carb. installations, both by me and other DPOs. My question is this:
How many, if any phenolic spacers, are required between the carb and the intake manifold. I have various configurations on my work bench. Factory manual shows a spacer on Fig. D7, but no mention of it on the parts picture. Moss shows none. I would think at least 1 is required for each carb.
Thank you

Phenolic material properties are useful in myriad industrial applications. Phenolic laminates are made by impregnating one or more layers of a base material such as paper, fiberglass or cotton with phenolic resin and laminating the resin-saturated base material under heat and pressure. The resin fully polymerizes (cures) during this process. The base material choice depends on the intended application of the finished product. Paper phenolics are used in manufacturing electrical components such as punch-through boards and household laminates. Glass phenolics are particularly well suited for use in the high speed bearing market. Phenolic micro-balloons are used for density control.

* Bakelaque is a rigid laminate or tube made from phenolic resin on a substrate cotton fabric, paper or glass.[2]
* Bakelite is made from phenolic resin and wood flour.
* Novotext is cotton fibre-reinforced phenolic, using randomly oriented fibres.
* Paxolin and Richlite are made from phenolic resin and paper.
* Tufnol is made from phenolic resin and woven cotton or linen fabric.[3]

To answer the original question--my bugeye has one spacer between the heat shield and the carburetor, on each side of course. The spacer is a bit over a half inch thick.

I've always assumed these were necessary to provide some thermal insulation between the carb and the engine, although I don't know that for sure. In any case, though, without at least one, I think you'll have clearance problems between the bottom of the carb and the heat shield.

I have a full pair of H1 carbs / shield / intake manifold from a Bugeye motor and there is one spacer between each carb and the shield.
Just confirming.

One block on each H1.

The reason I ask is that I think HS-2s have 2 blocks on each.

Nope just one spacer per carb.

Here's picture of the HS2 spacers, ironicly, this was the set I built for Tony Barnhill's Midget.

Those spacers are not obtainable, someone will need your extras.
