SU H-1 Phenolic Spacers

I am a bit confused. I am trying to undo some previous Carb. installations, both by me and other DPOs. My question is this:
How many, if any phenolic spacers, are required between the carb and the intake manifold. I have various configurations on my work bench. Factory manual shows a spacer on Fig. D7, but no mention of it on the parts picture. Moss shows none. I would think at least 1 is required for each carb.

Google it. I think that is what the spacers are made of. Maybe Bakelite.

Geeze, I always just called them Bake-o-lite spacers.

1 per carb outside of the heat shield.

To answer the original question--my bugeye has one spacer between the heat shield and the carburetor, on each side of course. The spacer is a bit over a half inch thick.

I've always assumed these were necessary to provide some thermal insulation between the carb and the engine, although I don't know that for sure. In any case, though, without at least one, I think you'll have clearance problems between the bottom of the carb and the heat shield.

I have a full pair of H1 carbs / shield / intake manifold from a Bugeye motor and there is one spacer between each carb and the shield.
Just confirming.

Nope just one spacer per carb.


Here's picture of the HS2 spacers, ironicly, this was the set I built for Tony Barnhill's Midget.

Those spacers are not obtainable, someone will need your extras.
