Stuck 25D4 Distributor

Well folks, the distributor is now turning freely. It took my mechanic almost an hour to work that thing free and clean it up. The vacuum advance didn't do well during the process and had to be replaced.

Con'grats! So do tell us - how'd your machanic get it lose?

I think the shop manual recommends putting a little grease at the bottom of the shaft where it connects to the distributor drive shaft to keep it from doing that. Fair warning to all who pull their distributor to see if its stuck!
 
How did he free the distributor? Well, he first removed the wires and cap. He applied heat to the engine block, and then used a wrench that looked like a chain on a metal stick. He'd tap the distributor, and then try to twist one way, then the other. The distribuor slowly worked itself free. Like you folks, he suggested that the distributor be removed and cleaned when changing points.
