Wedge Stromberg /TR7 help

The TR7 I just got has HORRIBLE throttle response. Basically, when you let off the throttle, it takes way too long for the revs to drop.

I'm assuming there's an issue with the Strombergs. I've rebuilt plenty of SUs, but I've never digged into Strombergs (I never worked on my TR-250's.)

As I remember, the Strombergs use diaphrams? Could someone point me towards the probably problem areas and best solutions?

By the way, this car has a manual choke conversion -- Not that it makes a difference. The Carbs were also replaced in 1999 (1500 miles ago.)

Thanks,
Sam

Sammy,

I'll bet your bypass valves are old and leaking. Look in the Moss catalog for location, remove, disassemble, and replace the diaphram with a peice of gasket paper suitable for exposure to fuel. I had the same problem, did this, and the car is a whole new animal, let of the gas when your slowing down and the engine actually brakes.

Yes -- I'd say that too. The manual has technique for resetting the valve if stuck. Try that first but I'll bet the old one was not replaced with the rebuild and is now gummed up.

Wow, thanks guys. That site is great. Also explains probable cause for the backfire I'm having!
