Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Adapted my motto of "Better Living Through Chemistry!", eh Janel?

's why my marble collection has precedence. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

I`d rather be the pilot than the co pilot, I love to "drift" into the curves then accelerate hard coming out. But i`m not allowed to .................... either Dale! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Would that be the driver's fault or the navigator? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If I lived a bit closer, I'd be game for this. I'm a little over 16, been potty trained for a while. Partake in the malted kind of beverage and am good at maps.

Don't think my wife would sign my permission slip though /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

You know, lots of jokes about this, but it's really something. A test of man and machine. Last year I did the mini rally. Left at 8:30am, returned at 10pm logging 573 miles.

This year it's the full rally. Up at 5am, meet at 6:30, speedo checks, packets with checkpoints handed out at 8am. After that, you & your partner are on your own, just you, the car and maps. And a reliable flashlight. There are 12 or so 'checkpoints' on the full rally. You have to plot the shortest route to each, answer a few questions once you're there to prove you were there and be back to the starting point by the deadline to avoid a DNF. Basically, shortest distance travelled wins. And yea, we could cross into Kansas, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska... it's all up to the evil rally master. But The Misery is definitely the most challenging (so I've heard) of the Triple Crown.

That is a debatable statement.

aRick and I have yet to determine the checkpoints for the Grand Lake Tour....we can equal if not surpass the evil efforts of Sir Spam-A-Lot. So...be nice. (Or you might receive the "special packet" of instructions. BwaHaHaHaHa!)

See you on Saturday morning as I doubt we'll see you Friday night! (Pre-rallye debauching is in order, you know.)

Special packet with the directions would be great thank you!

And I don't get to go pre-rallye debauching??? I can debauch with the best of 'em. In fact, I believe I'll find you guys, get Team Fugarwee all likkered up and hung over before check in.

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

jaybird, sounds like fun, might consider the road trip save for such confined quarters and your preference for mexican cuisine. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

HooBoi!!!

Seems a gauntlet of sorts has been tossed.

...and the challenge/difficulty/skill required for sucessfully running a rally is not lost on us.

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

Awww.. that's too short notice for me. I'd love to do a road trip to go and take a road trip.... I'd fail the drug test too though. Probably coulden't have made it anyway. Still got a sore bum from kicking meself for not taking the plane ticket to PR to help out Tinster.
I've even got a spankin new rental Camary sitting in the driveway with a mere 250 miles on it (got Toyota school for 2 days) just waiting to see the St. Louie arch mehehehe..
"No really Boss, I just got VERY lost.... I know I was your navigator in the Glenora run last year, But I have a better sense of direction riding in a Cobra."

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

OK, starts at 6:30 AM, what time is it likely to end?
No promises, I'm just feeling brave, wife is asleep and I've opened the Baileys.

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

Well, Ya pass the drug test!

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

24 hours later.

Ack Barry, I have a partner now. Schutnik (Kelly) A guy (i.e. 29-30 year old kid) in our club. He is moving to Seattle, so this may well be his first and only rally. And the challenge has been issued to the other teams. A car wash and Ted Drewes for any car that beats me.

IF he backs out, or if his original partner ends up able to run the rally, I'm calling ya. You'd have to leave your house oooh, 4am. Puts you here by 5:30. Wait, I think you could leave at 4:30, here by 6, haulbutt over to Westport by 6:30. See, extra half hour sleep. You can be back on the road by 11am Sunday morning (if you don't need any sleep after a 24 hour rally)

Seriously. If not this year, ABSOLUTELY next year. Getchirself a partner up there, like the little wifey or a buddy. Or I'll reserve the spot for you right now.

Next year it will be (I can't overnight, wife has a pedicure appt sunday morn). It really does sound like fun. I will spend the next 12 months making the GT a dedicated rally tourer, complete with ice box, diaper stowage, trench coat and wig. Maybe even some large external speakers to play Dolly Parton and keep challengers a safe distance behind! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

banjo, to enter this "cannon ball" obviously youve been brilliant enough purchase an older British car, how the heck can they expect that youll pass any type of test let alone one that involves checking for drugs? sounds like a case of extreme prejudice! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

Re: Step right up...a once in a lifetime opportun

Barry, that's a ~plan~!!!

I sense an impromptu showing at this event next time it's run... are 'dark horse' entrants able to show, last minute?

mehheh....
