I would like to remove the moto lita steering wheel from my 1967 BJ8 so I could sand and polyurethane the wheel. What are the steps to remove the wheel.

Might want to look at the photo in Moss catalog first. Briefly though, you first have to remove the turnsignal, then, if you have a adjustable steering wheel, disconnect the circlip on the steering column then with a steering wheel puller attached lift the wheel off. If you have a non-adjustable wheel remove the nut holding the wheel on the column and with the puller lift the wheel. It's a little more difficult than that but that's the sequence.
Good Luck
I found that the trafficator removal and reinstallation was made easier by desoldering some or all of the bullets from the harness (steering box side). And attaching a strong pull string to be left behind in the tube when you reinstall the trafficator. (on adjustable wheels)
Surely with a Motalita you can separate the wheel from the boss in situ, leaving the boss (and indicator assembly) in place. Much simpler method, and you dont have to worry about centralising the wheel when it goes back
