Guys, I'm not done, but still have no solution. I'm very hesitant to remove the stator until I can prove that the stator is broken and everything I've done tells me that the tube is in one piece. It all moveds together, both the top and the bottom. That makes me think the tube is one piece and not broken. The amount of the tube sticks out past the locking nut is short, by the amount that is sticking out the top. In the pictures of the stators I've seen show some kind of an alighment slits in tube about 1/3 of the up the tube. I'm wondering if that is getting hung up going through the column?? I'll keep looking.
Mean time I'm headed out to Put-In-Bay island for their Vintage Races this week. Will be back to to working on the TR in two weeks.
Everyone have a great weekend and thanks for all your help.
