Hello to all , My 65 BJ8 has the original adjustable steering wheel in it but I would like to update it . I want the turn signals and horn to be in the center of the wheel and would appreciate your recommendations on makers and model numbers and your experiences on installation . Thanks for your help as always .

i chose an aftermarket wheel for my bj7. i reduced the diameter of the wheel in my bn6 to 13.5 inches and had it recovered in leather. both cars are v8 conversions so original was not my main priority.but....i did want to maintain the trafficator....

Beautiful wheel from Mike Lempert; Is the wheel the same size as a standard healey wheel or has the size been reduced? If so I would like to know what size you chose.

Mike Lempert is the best - he can make literally anything you want, he made the M wheel in my BN1 - great quality.

After Mike - I would go Derrington.
 
Hey Steve, I really like the look of that wheel . Along with the wheel , what other pieces did you have to order ? Also , did you have to machine any parts to fit the trafficer into the wheel ? Thank to all for your responses.

Mike L made the wheel for a while - it's discontinued as it didn't sell too well. It's called the Gerow 15 1/2". It's fitted on a standard Moto Lita hub, which accepts the trafficator & grub screws. No machining was done.

Mike's wheels are excellent but if you can't wait then Moto-Lita is the first choice. They have a selection of the correct style wheels in different sizes. Make sure you order the correct boss then no machining is necessary. The trafficator for me is a quirky bit of kit that doesn't look great and is fiddly to use. You can move both the indicator switch and horn to the dashboard and that gets rid of the need to run wires up the steering column. On one of my cars I did a compromise and moved the indicator but left the horn in the centre of the wheel. Moto Lita have nice parts for a horn push. I really liked the clean look it gave. I went for this Motolita 15" wheel and Hub when I converted from LHD to RHD. I like the look of the wide slot.

Some may disagree, but I really like my Solid Wood 15" wheel from Tourist Trophy. Moss # 489-090.
It's somewhat thicker than most other wooden wheels and feels great in my hands. Beautifully finished with brass rivets.
Mine looks like Mahogany. The one pictured on Moss website (under "steering") looks more like Walnut.
To each his own.

Another vote for Mike Lempert:



This is a 100S Derrington style rivetless solid wood rim. His work is top shelf and the opportunity to have whatever fits your fancy can't be matched. Consider it a bespoke suit from Saville Row. Where else will you get something so intimately involved with your Healey custom tailored to your desires? Well worth whatever the wait is to have it delivered.

Just checked. The diameter is 14 1/2' It really is a beautiful wheel, although a bit slippery on a hot day. I could probbly improve the feel with some string back driving gloves, but I'd probably feel a bit strange wearing them.
 
Thanks Rick! My car's wheel is in rough shape, and I'm mulling over what to do. I think fitting a smaller diameter wheel might be a good idea. (I'm also not a fan of driving gloves). Jim
