Does anyone have a link to the thread where someone got the correct size metal tube from a metal shop for the steering wheel tube that holds the wiring from the wheel down to the steering box. I would like to know the dimensions of the tube that was used and any other info needed to make one. Karl
 
Karl, Macy’s Garage based in Ohio is a renowned Triumph restoration shop that sells many parts new and sometimes restored for sidescreen cars. Go to this link below and click on parts. It will take you to Mark’s eBay shop and you will see Stator Tubes there plus a whole lot more.

Late to the show here, what John said. The control head should not move side to side. That is a hint that the top of the stator tube is broken. Also, once tightened at the olive at the steering box, it should not turn. I saw your other post asking where to find a replacement. Hopefully you can pull it out of the top at the steering wheel. It won't come out of the bottom (steering box) without removing the front apron. The tube has two areas along its length that are expanded in diameter to help locate it in the steering column, so hopefully you can pull or push it out the top. I don't see how you could repair a broken one because there is not room for an inner or outer sleeve. You might also ask Marvin Gruber on this site if he has a spare.

Or...refer to this post #81 on how to do it yourself. The tube is 3/8" x .035" wall x 61.5" long. I bought it in stainless from Grainger, and it was in stock. Any metal supply will also have it. You will need to transfer the centering springs from your old tube, and slit the end with a dremel or such.
